I gave birth (induction) to my boy 3 years ago at Westmead Private, stayed 3 days (maybe 4) for around A$5,000. My boy went to special care 1 night for A$1,000. I have hospital insurance so only paid $300 excess.
Plus Obstetrician's fee, 12weeks scan, 20weeks scan, pre-natal check up.
I only saw GP to confirm the pregnancy then my GP referred me to the Obstetrician. I didn't have mid-wife.
Birth 15/3: W:4.2kg L:52cm HC:37.5cm
Day 09: W:4.37kg L:55.5cm HC:37cm
Day 46: W:7kg L:62m HC40.5cm
Day 82: W:~9.2kg L:~66cm
Day 112: W:~10.4kg
Thank you for your experience share! But i think i will stay my choice at Royal North shore Private...Coz..my hubby strongly recommend!! I am currently contact with Dr Adrian Kwok at Mater Clinic....He is a Asian doctor and i think this will be the best option for me^^
Coz my hubby strongly recommend.......But i think all the Private Hospital service were fine!!! I don't give much time to myself to choose another one, since my hubby sister baby was born there!

North shore private is abit far from parramatta. Have you thought about the travel time ? When I was in labour , I couldn't even stand the 15 mins drive to the Hospital. Can you imagine if your are in pain, then stuck in the traffic on a weekday . I still don't understand why you are looking for a midwife . I don't think you get to choose a midwife in the hospital .

I went to Westmead public and they are absolutely good. Some couples came from north shore area (didnt choose north shore private )and gave birth at Westmead because Westmead has special care nursery.
I think North shore private does not have special care nursery . Westmead has a very good children and neonate department

Hi there, I am deciding to go private (mater hospital) or public (royal north shore hospital) too. I am under medibank advantage plus insurance plan, say if my ob charges 6,000 AUD, anyone know how much out of pocket will I pay? Will I get some claim back from Medicare for prenatal check up at the ob?
