Bay area has Kaiser Permanante health group who have their own HMO insurance. Other insurances are BCBS CA, BC Anthem. Are outpatient visits expensive in US? A typical visit to a family doctor in Hong Kong for common illness such as a flu or sore throat would cost about HK$500 (around US$65) including 3 days of medicine. How much would such visit typically cost in US?
There are insurance policies in Hong Kong that offers international coverage on hospitalization. Outpatient is however not covered. Is there any health plan in US that covers outpatient visits only?
The kids are still in high school and middle school. I don't think schools offer any health insurance?
Do not use HK insurance for US care. Your best bet is to use local US insurance. Office visits are US65-300. General docs are usually 65. My Son's pediatric surgeon charged 225. Local insurance have adjusted rate and then your part to pay. It is much better that way.
Meds are separate from medical consults. That is another reason to get insurance. Look at the websites n you will find the covered benefits, expected coinsurance amount, deductible etc
