We just employed our first maid, a bun bun. She arrived 3 weeks ago. We chose her because she had worked an employer in Singapore for 6 six years. We thought she must be good if her employer kept her for so many years. It turned out that our consideration was totally correct. She is hard-working, clean, polite, intelligent, honest, simply excellent. She can even cook a lot of Chinese dishes, we don't need to spend much time to teach her this and that.
On the other hand, we also treat her very well. She got her own room, her own toilet with shower. We even installed a water heater for her alone in her toilet, and gave her a lot of used clothes. Of course, we expect her to do her job, but we also avoid "overusing" her, e.g., we ask her to clean our car only once a week. And we also ask her to take a break whenever she feels tired. We hope she can enjoy working for us. Just like every one of us, bun bun (and yan yan) also have mood and emotions, especially if we consider that they need to work so many hours inside a flat, 6 days a week, separated from her own family to live with some unknown people in a foreign country with totally different culture. We want a good maid, but we also want to be a good employer.
