I am 37 yrs old this year and it is my first pregnancy as well. My wish is to go through natural delivery but it all depends on many factors. Don't make any decision now but wait until closer to term. This is what my doc and friends told me lar. I think all of us will like to deliver naturally but things may not go with what we want. So just relax and enjoy while all of us can!
Salute to all of us who are older and wiser when we are pregnant!
I gave birth to my baby 2 months ago, at 36 yrs old. I think even if you are 40 it is no problem for you to do natural delivery as long as you do not have other health problems. I tried for natural birth and waited for 20 hours then ended up with C-section only because I am very petite and there was just not enogh space for the baby's head to descend. My doc said I would had been able to do natural delivery had I been a tad taller. Age was never cited as a probelm so don't worry. I also agree with Chipmama that no need to worry until you are very close to your due date, and see how things go.
I just had a natural delivery on 13Jan06 and I am well over 35. I was planning to have a natural birth but my doc. advised me to have a c-section instead because of my age. She was worrying about if I had the energy to push the baby out and if the joint and muscle would be flexible enough to have a smooth delivery. After considering the date and the safety of the baby, my husband and I decided to have a c-section about one week before the expected due date. Nevertheless, bb was decided to come out another week earlier (one week earlier than the planned c-section). Since we told doc. that if bb came out earlier than c-section date then I'd try the natural birth.
I went to hospital at 11:30pm and had the delivery at 8am on the following day. The pain was unreal! If the contraction was not at mid-night, I would have call the doc. and to have c-section immediately. It was much painful than I expected but the delivery was smooth and my doc. was quite impressed that I could give a natural birth. After the delivery I was able to breastfeed (trying to breastfeed) the baby and walk around on the same day.
Although a lot of other things can determine if you can have a natural birth, "exercise would certainly help a natural birth".
Hope everything will be fine.
