I have the same situation this summer when we went to Kyushu, we rented the car from Budget. At first we tried to ask for help from Gas Station and those Toyota shops (those which sell cars) but they could not help and then we went back to Budget and they were willing to change the car for us at once. Of course we also spend more time in searching for the right way....
Before that, we rented car from Toyota, Nissan and Mazada, all are very good and no problem.
I'm not sure if you could complain in HK, I think probabaly NO.
So, do you rent the car directly from Toyota? I'm just wondering if it is because Budget is cheap and thus the car / GPS model is a bit old....
I rent a car from Rakuten (樂天網) , the car is not a new model but it not very old, just 30,000 km used.
I just wonder if somebody have the same situation. I choose toyota we have a very good experience in Taiwan. We used to rent from Nissan and it is a bit cheaper.
from my past experience never charged me GPS rental from rakuten, which car shop actually?
if its from toyota rent-a-car, as i know there's an english hotline but hv to pay IDD $
have an experience GPS suddenly doesn't work in the "mid-way", luckily we hv google map to guide as back to hotel (yes! at that moment, google map work while GPS not though it's snowing)
