Hi guys,

My case is I’m 100% HK,hubby is Canadian citizen. We have anewborn and we just submitted the citizenship application for her.


My questions are:


(1) Can I apply the citizenship through spouse sponsorship now even we don’t have plan to return to Canada soon? Hubby and I will not return to Canada until our baby goes to high school.


(2) I’ve talked to anagent, she said that I can still apply for the citizenship now and do the “landing”to get the maple leaf card. Then I can return to HK and live in HK with my hubby. Is this true?


(3) I am also required to be back every 5 years to renew the maple leafcard. Usually I will need stay in Canada for at least 2 years (in 5 years) to renew the maple leaf card. Since my hubby is a citizen and he's living outside Canada, this condition will be waived and I can still renew the maple leaf card without staying in Canada for minimum of 2 years. Is this the case?

hmm. yes or no..

1. u r applying the "immigration for family reunion" not the citizenship. and since all your family members are in HK, so what sort of reunion you are... thus i doubt if the immigration dept will approve your application.

2. yes, you can apply the immigration and once approve, they will give you the maple leaf card and you can return to HK.

3. but yes, you need to lived in canada 2 years out of 5 years before they could approve you for the renwal of the maple leaf card. yes and no - if you hubby is working for a canadian company who send him to other country to work, then you have justification not to lived in canada for the minimum requirement.

however, i suspected your hubby is just a NON-resident, and employed by a company in HK , so i thought think you could skip that 2 years minimum requirements living in canada

Just curious, if you are planning to move to Canada when your child goes to high school, why do you want to apply for immigration now and have to worry about maple leaf card expiring ?
