Maid register to telephone company

Does your maid use your home address to register in telephone company so that she can make calls to overseas either using the home phone or mobile. The bill will be sent to your home.

Do you allow her to make such registration ? If not, how do you stop her from doing (if she has just started to use this service) ?

Please advice. Thank you.

我收類似打海外電話的bill給個工人但用我地的址址，我沒有問佢，我都想知係咪佢用屋企的電話打的。

why not u ask her and find out? should let her know she is not allowed to disclose/use home address for personal use except permission granted by employer.

I did tell her not to use our phone and home address, but it seems that the maid (Indonesia) still went ahead to register. I have told her to cancel it, so if she does, that is good. If she does not, I am at a loss.

Yes, the maid can use our home phone and even her own mobile to call overseas, and the bill will be sent to our house address. In other words, if she were to make overseas phone bill of over thousand dollars, the bill will still be sent to our home address..... So, imagine she terminates the contract .... that means the bill will still be sent to our house... Same as making money loan, we will have debtors calling for us and asking for the settlements.

It has happened before to my friend. I don't wish this to happen to me.

you can set the password of your phone, if you want to call IDD, you need to enter the password. If your maid don't know the password, she cannot make the IDD call.

Call PCCW, it is free of charge service.

Even if you lock your home telephone, you have only resolve half the probelm as she can still make overseas calls on her mobile. Tell her or better still go with her to make sure she cancels the contract with the phone company and from then on, she should use one of those calling cards to make overseas calls.

I have told her the followings on the first day:

1. DO not use home phone to call home except for emergency, e.g. earthquake or tsunami.
2. DO not use mobile during work.

Thank you for all your kind advice.

I have told my maid not to use our home address to register anything on the first day of work..and also not to use the phone during work.. but it seems she has either forget intentionally or choose to forget.

My hus and I have already told her to cancel the contract with phone company, but we can only wait and see whether she will receive any billing statement in 1 months time.

If she still did not cancel, will you fire her ? My child and her seems to get along quite well. My child just started K1 this year.

You can send a letter to the telephone company and inform the tel. company that you discover Miss xxx uses your home address for phone registration without your permission and you are not liable for any tel. expenditure incurred by Miss xxx.

You need to attached your water/electricity/gas bill to certify that this is your home address.

Then the company will call the maid and cut her phone service.

I'm sorry to intrude all your discussion about maid using our address to register for her phone bill....but isn't that normal that the maid should need our address to register?? they come a long way to hk to work and it is a natural thing that they miss their family and call them often (of course not during their working hours)...why not just give them a little favour? I dont mean to offend anybody but sometimes we are just too overreacted??

前2任工人我都比佢申請手提電話, 但當然要事先通知我, 除電話費單/家人通訊, 其他用途就免問, 上任工人, 經常有好多不知明信件寄比佢, 有d係菲律賓文(信封面), 都唔知係乜, 問佢話係教會, 有d話唔知乜會, 那d我就唔比, 會叫佢通知個會叫佢地唔好再寄信來. 至於屋企電話, 都可以打, 但當然要同我講聲先, 我上2任工人都係買d唔知乜卡, 係屋企打長途但費用係張卡扣, 其實工人平時我唔係屋企都一定傾電話, 只係睇佢過唔過份, 唔過份我係ok既.
現任工人未做夠2個月就將屋企電話比人, 有人搵佢我聽左, 佢仲唔認比過人, 真係唔知佢傻定佢當我傻, 人地都講得出你個名, 點會搞錯, 但佢都係死口唔認, 其實我唔係鬧佢, 我問佢只係想"兇"下佢竟然咁快比屋企電話朋友(未夠2個月), 比你會唔會鬧個工人?

I was a nice employee before and have previously allow my ex-maid to do that. She registered our home phone to a telephone company, and can make overseas call using her mobile phone.

And the result of being nice and doing a little favour... 1 month before her contract ends (she worked for us for 4 years), she registered to THREE phone companies without me knowing, made about HK$8000 calls for EACH telephone companies and left our house WITHOUT paying the bill. And in the end, we have debtors calling our house for the next 2 YEARS chasing after the bill. The phone chasing has stopped about 1 year ago.

For now, I allow the new maids to make phone calls back home, when she rest, using only phone cards and her mobile phone.

So, do you have any better suggestions ?

Oh by the way, she even used her phone bill address to make money loans.....
