I am new to this forum. My baby girl was born in Sep 05 too! We live in Los Angeles, US but we are 100% HKers....I write in English only because I don't know how to type Chinese, hope u don't mind
When I look at your other topics like "BB menu", I suddenly realize that my baby is still eating baby foods like Gerber, cereal etc....Also like Westerners here, we give her bread, beans etc to pick up and eat. So I have the following questions:
1. Are many Sep 05 babies eating "rice" already? How about porridge/ pasta?
2. Are u spoon feeding your bb, or he/ she feeds him/herself? Does he/ she use hand to pick up the rice instead?
3. Is your bb eating together with u? Or he/ she eats first and then your turn?
4. How many times a day your bb eats (major meal I mean). How about milk?
Sorry so many question at a time, because BK is slow here in US.... better type all and get your answers....
hello"
Nice to meet you in BK
1First, my son is eating the middle of porridge and rice. I think soft rice is ok for them.
2of cource i am feegind with spoon. My son is a dirty and naughty guy. He will put his hand in the porridge and i need to hold the bowl. Can't let he reach.
3I will let him eat first and then our turn. but now he will sit besides us when we are having our dinner. He will eat some snack like fruit.
4major mean, like soft rice. 2 times a day and 3 times milk.
First of all, thanks all of u in sharing your experience! I can understand Chinese with no problem, so u can reply to me like Jolo!
I always have questions about my baby's food and her eating habit because Chinese and US people have different eating cultures. So what the doctor/ book suggests to me may not work sometimes. And u know, I cannot phone my mom in HK to ask her everyday! Now I can ask u girls la!
So do u know what food is good/ bad for 濕疹? And what to avoid for 便秘? My girl has both, and her doctor asks us to avoid a lot of food....
1) I let my baby eats all kind of food now (well most of my food, I still try to avoid shell-fish)
My baby now can eat soft-cooked rice, I think Chinese rice is the best, no UncleBen! Furthermore macaroni or spagetti or Udon noodle is also a good choice. I also let Aidan eat scramble egg, and mashed potato/ sweet potato.
There is so many things u can give your baby to eat now!
By the way how many teeth does you baby have now?
My baby now has 8 teeth and my pediatrician suggests baby to eat everything that we eat at the dinner table. Of course you will need to cut the food into small pieces with scissor and no MSG.
2) I sometime let my baby eat on his own, but he will make a big big mess! I think he is not ready to control his hand and eye cordination, so I will 80% of the time feed my baby.
3) Aidan takes small breadfast, lunch and dinner, and 3 formula in between.
4) for the food I only know nuts and honey is not good for small babies. Other then that I let Aidan eat most things (other then shellfish)
食多D菜心 = 正氣!
or you can buy some Chinese medicine like 保
嬰dan or 通屋奇應元... also good... u can read for instruction on the box
Let you baby eat more fruit and vegetable will be good for her!
My girl also declares her independence by putting her hand into the porridge/ cereal. I think I am influenced by people here so I will let her try things that are harmless, e.g. hold her own spoon (I hold the one that has food), pick up bread from her tray (she likes bread). The result ..... lots of cleaning afterward.......
I know US mama club, I am one of them too.... Just because BK is so slow with the US system that I have not been to the forum for a long time....Where is your friend? If she is in LA, I 90% chance know her :)
I think 火龍果 will be a good fruit, not too sweet and have small seed for better bowel movement. However, I don't think I have seen any here. Maybe this weekend I will go to Chinese supermarket and look for it...
My bb has 6 teeth, up 4 down 2. She also takes "small" breakfast too... just about 2-3 oz of formula and some bread. But isn't it weird because she has not have food for the 10 hours of sleep?
I now let her try to feed herself if the food can be picked up (e.g. fruit, corn, bread). The result is also a mess. So we have to bathe her every night before bed.
When u prepare the scramble egg, do u add cooking oil?
my son also eat Gerber's corn and carrot once a week. it's fine for him (eventhough only has 3 teeth).
he also suffers from constipation because he refuses to drink water. therefore, nore fruits, such as Kiwi, banana, once a day.
i want to let him feed himself, but he never pick the "finger biscuits". but i will start to train him not later than 13 months because he will go to N1 next year, he has to be independent before schooling!!!
my 99 live in SF, we might move there ? years later.
so nice to meet you here.(i've visit US BK system, it's really very slow, not many BK mum discussion)
Actually I prefer Aidan to continue to take his forumla until he is about 3 (or until he stop himself!)
For cooking I put a small amount of seasoning such as oil and salt. (say about 1/5 of what we use as adults) this is for 2 reasons: #1: I want Aidan to try different and more food. My friend had this experience where she kept very straight rules about her baby son'd diet, i.e. no salt, no oil, no adult food, no seafood... and now her son is 5 and he is soooo picky with his food, and he does not like to try new food ar all! One time I brought these giant straberry to her house thinking that all kids love them and he refuses just to even try! My friend the mother wonders if she was the reason! (u never know right?)
#2: I heard now it is a good time to give the baby /toddler some salt since our body also needs sodium
So I do put oil and a pinch of salt for the egg
Actually Aidan has a very good appetite!
his schedule is like this:
8-9 am 8oz Formula
9:30 am small breakfast (corn-flakes, bread, oatmeal, scramble eggs)
12:30pm lunch (congee, rice, noodle, bread, sandwich, whatever we can find)
3:30pm fruit (apple, banana, kiwi, dragon fruit, avocado, papaya) he can eat 1 fruit!
5:30 pm 8 oz formula
7:30pm dinner (if we are having dinner at home, 50% we eat the same thing or I try to keep it rice, and some 餸. So that Aidan thinks we all eat the same thing)
10:00pm 8oz forumla
But at the end I never force any food to Aidan, if he is hungry he will eat more and vice versa. I believe baby should not feel eating is an obligation.
So don't worry if sometime your baby does note eat all her food. As long as she is healthy and happy that's all we want right?
Actually we might go to SF for visit sometime next year!
