Since my baby was born, I have used Angelcare monitor. It costs me almost HKD1000, but it all worths the money. I bought it from Canada.
Did you hear the news today? A baby just passed away because her heart beat has stopped all of a sudden while she slept? Without the monitor, there's no way you will know if your baby is normally breathing or not. I've known few babies who actually stopped breathing all of a sudden (no previous signs/symptoms)...so I play safe, and bought the monitor. My baby sleeps in a separate room and we actually stop worrying while baby sleeps. Since the monitor comes with a portable machine, where we can bring to every corner in the apartment, if no one is at home and I need to take shower, I just put my baby on his bed. With the monitor, I can hear (in the bathroom) what he's doing in the room without worrying.
So, I think there's no harm to buy a monitor that beeps according to heart-beat.
