model agency

i am now "heart big heart small" to whether sign contract for my daughters with a model agency or not. i have checked with the production company (which i usually work with), this agent is a reliable one and they are using them as one of the agents as well. the problem is i need to pay about cad$1000 (which is about 25%) of the photo taking at a studio for set up photo shots. this is quite a big amount to us. what will you do? sign or not sign.

If I were you, I won't sign.

Your daughters are working for the agency, they should be paying you money. How come you have to pay them money?

梗係吾好簽啦!電視都成日強調真正既MODEL公司係吾會收取MODEL任何費用,我早幾年試過幾鑊都係响街有個女仔/人捉住我又俾卡片又約我上去佢公司度CASTING,D公司係幾耳熟,有間仲似乎係電視公司黎(老友記---咁上下既名,我又認得間野曾經有拍戲),跟住上到去又係叫我俾錢,我話無,佢仲問我連一千蚊都俾吾到?我好直接咁答話係!咁佢仲想大我咁話:"咁你又吾係好似嗰D明星(講左兩個明星仔名)咁,你都未成名,咁你都要錢請番助手黎幫你啦!"跟住我話:"咁係你公司請我上黎番工,咁係應該你俾錢,無理由係我俾錢你駛先囉!"跟住條友黑哂口面扮哂用DC影我CASTING(自我介紹之類既台詞),之後就自動消失無再打黎搵我喇!

所以穩鎮起見你都吾好上當呀!!!

我以前細細個拍過下d廣告相同片，真係一毫子都無交過架！
從來都唔會有真正o既廣告公司叫你俾錢先架！！！
千其唔好上當呀！

i have also asked the production company (which my daughter is now working on a video film), the girl said this model agency is a reliable one (her company is using them also). however, the system is different from toronto and hk, need to pay something to model agent (photo, make up) as you are going to a studio for professional shooting. the agent pay 3/4. i do not need to pay the production company for any because they are doing the film already, not acting as an agent lor. i had rejected to two before. the model agent is asking for report from school too, as need to apply for job license from school broad with this. students with low marks may not be able to work. my elder daughter wants to sign and promise she will keep on her school work. i don't want to disappoint her for so many time, so heart big heart small lor

你唔駛諗, 我可以百份百話你知呃人, 因為我以前都試過. 我仲比埋錢, (無比足), 但都係一份job都無接過, 後耐我自己direct send相去報館, 人哋都登埋我張相, 間agent公司9到將我張相剪出嚟貼响佢哋個board, 跟住呃其他人話係佢哋幫我嘅, 你話9唔9. 所以我好肯定話你知, 如果你個女靚或想做明星, 唔駛用呢個途徑, 可以自己sell自己, 唔駛比人呃你哋錢. 再講, 我朋友做model都話正規公司係唔會收取任何費用, 只會直至有job先會扣糧抽用. 人哋比job你唔係睇你張相, 係直接interview! ok!!

I don't know about the different systems between Canada & HK. However, I know that models get paid to do a photo shoot and not the other way around.

I am starting to wonder if those modeling agencies who scam people in HK have moved to Canada.

I think it's very difficult for those so-called model scouts to scam people in Hong Kong nowadays.

i really don't know, i was told by the production company that this agent is one of the top 10 in toronto, mainly in fashion industry. if this is true, it is a good opportunity for her, as in canada, every bit of experience counted - will affect which university / company to choose you in future (if others appliant with similar backgrounds/result etc). another points is, nearly all youngsters here will work part-time (although at a older age). it is better for her to have this part time, starting earlier, than working harder like dogs in the stores like fast food, or as shop assistant in other types of stores when she can start to work on part-time at the legal age.
my daughter wants to join - another reason is she is going to a school trip to ottawa in may - and teacher encourge the class to earn money by themselves, age 12 only (doing housework, babysit etc.). the agent said there are several jobs waiting for x'mas and they are lack of kids models for catwalk, as they just open this stream for kid models. i am trying to negotiate with them, if it is possible to deduct this fee from their job instead. the agency said they will let me know later, in a day or two. so i am now thinking, if they agree, ok, if not agree, then i don't know.
