My maid exactly the same as yours. She owed people money ($35K) from finance company & I just discovered it while she gone back to phil during easter holiday. However, we only use her for 5 months, and we also lent her money too.
I thought & hoped that she won't be back, but she did show up after the holiday last sunday. I'm very nervous and so worry to be disturbed by the loan shark these days. We still haven't talked to her yet and just pretended as if nothing happens, as I don't know what she will done to us, esp my little baby is in her hand and both of us work daytime. NO ONE is staying at home usually.
During the week, I'm trying to arrange somebody staying at home with them.
I've already found a nursery home for my baby and hasn't decided yet and at the same time, I'm still looking for a replacement.
I just discussed with my hubby on this issue. We decided that no matter whether my maid will come back or not, we will terminate her contract with immediate effect. In fact, I had received some calls from the loan shark asking my maid to return money in early March. But, my maid denied she had borrowed money. As her performance for the past few years was very good, I believed her. However, I received letter from the financial company today and I checked with it and confirmed that my maid had really borrowed money from them. I can't tolerate her dishonest.
Although I need to pay the long service payment to her, I still will terminate her because I don't want to have a bomb in my family and I can't face her when I know her is a lier. But now, I feel headache on the replacement issue. Do you have any recommendation?
I'll terminate my maid tomorrow. I'm so worry these days & I can't concentrate my work, I'm nearly insane.
I prepared to put my baby in my friends home temp. next week who is now just having her maternity leave(her baby is now 1 months old) she has a "pui yuet" and a bun bun, so she can be of help temp.
I've 2 candidates for me to select, but still have some obstacles in the recrutiment, long story.....
One thai & One bun, for the thai, she is my friend's sister, sounds strange? yes, in fact she is chinese but with Thai nationality, borned & lived in thailand.
I don't know if it is good or not to employ a chinese as a domestic helper at standard DH wages. If we take her, we will go through formal procedure for the recruitment through agency, it takes 4-6weeks for the procurement as normal, she is 31yrs with 2 children,what do you think?
The thai seems okay as she should be experienced to take care children and mature enough but does your friend really know her sister? She should give you some advice and comment.
I’m also very tense today as my maid will be back to HK tomorrow. We haven’t let her know about the financial companies had sent calls and letters to my house. Actually, I’m doubtful whether she will come back or not. However, if she comes back, I will fire her immediately. Now, I just ask my friend to look after my kid temporarily. I still need to hire another maid in the long run. But, the agency said it will take 2 to 3 months for the recruitment. It seems too long to me.
Surprisely, my maid came back today. However, when she was back, we had no one at home and I had taken her key back before she left HK. I also changed my house door lock. I would not let her go into my house!
She called me at the management office and I told her that she was fired because of her borrowing money and dishonest. I said I would give her the termination letter in the evening (as I was busy to take my kid to interest class today).
Tonight, my husband gave her the termination letter. She did not say anything. I will do the settlement with her tomorrow as it take me some time to calculate her long service payment and the payment in lieu.

Ha ha, you come across the situation as I had it before!
I fired her yesterday afternoon. B4 I took the action, I still strungle & felt pity for quite a while for laying her off as she really likes my son & get the job done with us so far. Also, my hubby didn't support me too. He thinks she did nothing wrong except just borrowing money, he doesn't wants to see the future problems/inconveniences without a maid. (we have totally different point of view)
Anyway, I asked friends to come up to my place to take the action. Surprisely, when I said I can't keep her anymore in our home, and she was so calm and just not giving a word or asking anything! So afterthat, she packed up her stuff at our surivellience. Then, she start to "play" with us.
SHe said she would go by herself to agent tomorrow. (at that we still havn't signed anything yet) She was just trying to slip away!!! I said "cannot", and we must go to the agent to settle the things, and I reclaimed if she insisted, "I would call the police",
I caught her to get into a taxi and send her the agent.
At the agency, until we signed up all the paper & paid her the money, she didn't say a word / asked for anything. Finally, I asked her to take out the contract and request her to put a chop onto it to state something like "void" / "cancelled" to avoid her to lodge for loan anymore during the rest of days in HK. Then, I revealed that I know her financial problem.
She denied having debts, she is just a lier!!!!! She said people making up / black naming her.
She is totally rubbish,
No need to give a #### of Sympthy to this people!!!!
