If you want to reward your son, buy PS3 or Wii or NDSL or PSP instead. Buying him an outdated PS2 is worse than not buying anything at all (unless your son explicitly ask you to buy him a PS2) because all his classmates are already playing PS3 / NDSL / Wii and his classmates will laugh at him.
