Yes, all kids learn phonics and you dont need to send them to any special class because they learn it from school. My daughter is 4.5yr and she can distinguish many sound of the alphabet and she can even guess what alphabet start with by just telling her the word.
小馬仔媽媽,
I didnt send my daughter to pre-school. She pick it up from daycare when they teach them alphabet. No need to worry as my neigbour's girl doesnt know English as she just pick it up all English from kindergarten, but be careful who your kids mix with as that can make a big difference to your child.
Imagine how we learn Chinese, we never learn any phonic and it applies to English as well. My husband never learn phonic although he is native speaker, he only learnt it when he was teaching kids English in HK. Isnt' it funny!
By the way, have you settle down? where do you live now? Have you registered the kindergarten yet? My daughter's kindergarten will have an orientation next week.
The weather is very nice in the last few days and did you take your child to the park?
I assume you are in Vancouver already and you are going to move to 溫西 in JUN? Did you buy a house or rent?
I am in Burnaby and my daughter will only study nearby, so it wont be the same school as yours.
I did go out with my daughter but since I am expecting next month, I can barely walk and usually I just seat outside and wait for them while my daughter and daddy has good time. They went to many places in the last few weeks as my husband has a free passport which allows him to take 1 guest to different attractions. They have been to Space Museum, Science Museum, Capliano Bridge, Grouse Mountain, Queens Park, Van Dusen Park, IMAX....etc and join a downtown city tour and may go for harbour cruise and horse drawn tour at Stanley Park this week. There is still lots of things we havent done, such as farm, zoo and other museums.
小馬仔媽媽,
Dont you feel the entrance fee for going to any attractions are very high in Vancouver? We never been to any attractions before until we got that passport and it will be ended by this week as it is only 1.5month promotion for industry people.
In the past, we mainly took our daughter to different parks as she already feel happy by playing there. Later in JUN, certain park will open the spray for kids to run around and my daughter always love to play with that. Yesterday, we went to Burnaby Musemum and Art Gallery, after that, we just stay at the Deer Lake Park for the afternoon as the playground is very nice there.
Perhaps you can take your son to IMAX to watch Dinasour movies as my daughter loves it very much, but again, it is not cheap!
Now it is the best time to visit places as when winter comes, we all stay at home and no where to go. My husband's colleagues just tease him about having an extra long summer vacation as he will take 2-3months off to help me.
