H i! Every Ma Ma in Singapore.
Did you have any idea of the international school in singapore ? Which one is more good for the kids come from Hong kong. Please inform.
Canadian In'tl School is a good school for Kindergarten,
or juniors, but if you plan to stay in Singapore for long term, you have to consider which school got good reputation for their middle & high school too!
The choice I made is the choice of many other parents too! After my boy transferred to UWC in K2, he keep meeting friends transferred from CIS in G1, G2 ...
School fees for UWC, American School is $20,000+ per year. (Kingdergarten is lowest, fees for upper grades would be higher). FYI, CIS school fees is lower!
Our family is going to move to Singapore in Jan 2009 from HK, my daughter is now around 3.5 years old (K1 in HK) and I plan to send her to the Int'l School there. I just wonder how much is the int'l school fee that you mentioned: United World, singapore american School and Tanglin Trust.
By the way, as for the visa problem, I'm afraid that we could not get to Singapore by Jan 03 ( the school open day), is that possible for us to apply for the schools later?
I really need your help, thanks a lot.
Stella

I'm not talking about UWC. There is another one called Dover Court School. It's also a british system international school.....located quite close to Tanglin Trust, UWC as well.

I think it depends on which Int'l school. Most of the Int'l School do have Chinese lesson. But they just treated chinese as second language.
For the one in Dover Road, I think you are talking about UNited World Colleage. the school is very good. I like this school not only the academic, also they do teach the child a lot of community. Is a very balance school. There's a long waiting list all the time.

Hi, did anyone visit Dover Court school? I always heard good things about this school and wonder if anyone has any experience with this school. Thanks
I see, my son only have HK SAR passport, I didn't apply the British passport for him due to it is a bit expensive and we think it is not need yet. But my hushand have it, so we apply when we need.
But my hushand said there is not prolity for British passport holder forTanglin Trust, that some ppl complain for.
Anyway, I also feel here is bored. very bored, I like HK more, as I resign and move here.
Now everyday need to thing what to do, I think maybe good idea to put him in playground later.
I visit CIS, see the kid there is happy too, so just let him there and see, N1-K2 will be there anyway.
Lucky my hushand company also agree to pay for the school fee. but also have limit, so this school is fit to our budget
Nice to chat to you and thanks for your useful information again.

I think in general Singapore education is not bad. So if CIS is close to your home, i think you better take it. We are lucky, as my husband's company agreed to pay for the school fee, that's why we pick the Tanglin Trust. I have to say the school fee is very very expensive!!! My husband is from HK but he was in England before. That's why we are holding British passport.
My son just started the nursery last week. He quite like it. I hope you and your children will like Singapore. The place is a bit boring (sorry I have to say that). If you have a children, you will find singapore is better than Hong Kong.

Yes, it is. UWCSEA is going to open a new campus at the Tampines at 2010. Now is easier to apply. but the bad thing is the new campus is very far away.
I would like to share also some of the info I got here in S"pore. As far as int'l school is concerned, the most famous one should be UWC; I know they are going to extend the campus in the east. My korean friend has put her younger son there in K2 and she said right now is more easy to get into than previous yr. But for elementary school, the wait list is still long.
Actually if you are looking for kindergarten, I think there are lots of choice, not only you can choose int'l one, but also some local kindergarten are very popular and offer bilingual environment. One of my HK friend who put the kids to local kindergarten and then to int'l elementary school. And the kids adapt very well.
I think the int'l school that I listed out, are the top int'l school in Singapore. The rankings are from their accademic results per year, comments from the newspaper, and also comments from a lot of parents. I never heard about the Emaar Int'l school. For CIS, the comments is neutral. Not bad but not on the top list. There's also a new Int'l school that just launched in Singapore recently. I don't have much information, you can take a look: http://www.oneworldinternational.org/
You can find there's quite a lot of forum talking about in'tl school. And you can also find a lot of useful expats information regarding Singapore. When i first moved here, this is my favourate website!
My son is 3 years old now. When we first move here, he is only 18 months. I also put him to some playgroup. I put him to the Julia Gabriel, Busy Buddies, GOG and Little Hands. Among all of this, I think GOG is quite good. But donno whether is close to your apartment. The good thing about this school is the teacher are very nice and the school is clean and bi-lingual. you know, the hand foot mouth disease in Singapore is very serious, clean is very important!!!!

you're welcome. my son just went to tanglin trust today (the first day). I'm so happy to see he quite like the school. I never heard about the Canadian In'tl school. Since I did quite a lot of research last year. Here's the good int'l school that always have good comments: United World, Singapore American, Tanglin Trust and also Overseas Family school.
Let me know if you need further help. I can understand you must be very confused the schooling in Singapore. By the way, What's your son's age?

Thank you for your information, the few you mention I didn't know that, but I will ask my hushand have a look.
We just move here for few month, and looking for school for my son next year for N1.
Here ...
the reason why we didn't put my son to local school are:
1) we are not PR, and don't want to be a PR. because i don't want my son to serve the army. so i think the good local school for non-PR is quite difficult to get a spot there.
2) as we don't think we will stay here forever. we will go back to HK for sure. if I put my son to Int'l school is easier for me to put him back to HK in'tl school.
3) since my husband's company covered all the school fee, i don't feel painful to pay the int'l school fee. but honestly, if i can go to the good local school (like ACS or NanYang) i will prefer my son to go to local school.
Thank you for your information, the few you mention I didn't know that, but I will ask my hushand have a look.
