no. you've got to find a discount codebased in usd. not the one in hkd. last time I was able to find usd 20. usd 15 is the most popular one. search on internet.

I did it before it worked. as long as you dont enter the code until you are there to call the service in us. the code you entered must be in the currency of the country you call the service.

eg you register in hk, dont enter the code. in us, you enter the code that's in usd only.

as long as you use different no. to register uber, then you can use the discount code. just make sure you dont enter the code until you really want the ride.

one can use hk no to register in the states, as long as the no. can receive international sms. last time my hubby used his hk no to register in the states, I used my hk no. to register in hk first but only enter the code while we were in the states just before we called the car. both ways worked.

Oh, sorry, I remember incorrectly. Uber would send you a SMS message (for overseas number, make sure roaming service is enabled) and email you for verifying your phone number & email address. Driver would text / call you in case he/she is unable to locate your location.

For mears, I have been advised just to hail a cap at the taxi stand. Is there a mear taxi stand there?

Yes, for the second question. My mom set up her Uber account in HK. The offer she got is HK$50 tunnel fee rebate instead of a free ride (up to US$20).
I've been to Orlando recently. I would like to recommend you to take Mears Motor Shuttle for airport shuttle instead of taxi.
Here is my story:
I realized that Uber/Lyft are not allowed to pick up passengers at Orlando airport (MCO) until I landed at late hour. I called my hotel to ask about the estimated taxi fare since the hotel doesn't have complimentary pick up. The hotel staff told me that it's about $35. Then, we headed to a taxi stand but noticed the taxi fare quoted on the paper is ~US$65! The driver says that he is about to leave if we're getting in. We insisted that the rate is not expected and refused the service. Feel like being rip off!
I called the hotel again for getting the taxi contact. The hotel directed us to Mears Motor Shuttle's bay, which is just very close to the taxi stand. It's a shared ride shuttle. We paid Mears driver $74 (2 persons, round-trip, 20+ miles) in cash. The Mears driver issued a return trip ticket to us. I do have such question regarding using the promo code. I have heard cases that the promo code doesn't work if the a/c is not set up where the code is used, I think in terms of country. Is this correct? I have been thinking of setting up an account in HK, but then I am afraid I cannot use the promo code.
