I'm Canadian, was the applicant for my kid's passport a few months ago (5.5 yrs now).
I simply asked my sister (also Canadian) to be the guarantor. Then I served as the guarantor for my sister's children (but they're < 5).
I remember that I asked my friend to do the guarantor . Same procedure for all first passport for children. Yes, if you're a Canadian, then you can as "applicant" and your husband can be a guarantor .
