will you bring your kids to take the vaccine?... can't decide coz it's the first batch they got and not really sure about the side effects.... what will you do?

we went to see the peds last friday because my son has few red spots after taking bath.thank god, it was like sort of sensitive skin when temperature change.

then the peds asked my son to take the 2nd seasonal flu shot and the h1n1 injection shot as well.

she said it's time to take the h1n1 shot, to protect 1st. and the h1n1 shot it's kinda shortage.

my son had 2 shots on his 2 parts of pat pat, he of cos didnt know what would happen, when the needle on his pat pat, he cried "wa wa" only 2 times then stopped crying. that was very good...

1 month later he will get the 2nd h1n1 dose if it is still available.

Spencer was not able to get flu shot before. It has been almost 3 months that we have continuously called the pedi office to check for availability. I think that it's maybe because of his allergy that the doctor decided to get him the shot.
Sometimes before, one of the local clinic offered free flu shots to public, there was hundreds of people waiting in line for four hours. My company sponsored free flu shots for all employees and H1N1 shots for those at high risks.

when people are really desperate to get the H1N1 vaccines, they go to take the ones offered by the public health which is usually given at the fairground or at the public medical center. however, it takes at least 3 to 6 hours to line up, depends on how early you get there. so, imagine how crowded it is ... also those vaccines are multiple-dose ones so it definitely contains preservative/mercury. so i never thought about taking one from the public health.

if you're waiting for one available from your pedi's private practice, probably they'll never call you unless yr kid really really needs one. or when you go to their office for check-up or visit, they'll give u one if you're qualified to have one.

some of my friends' kids were also not be able to even get the flu shots due to short of supply. i guess more people went to take seasonal flu shots this year. they might be offered to take flu shot together when they went to take the H1N1 vaccines. or some people were not be able to get the H1N1 vaccines, so they thought they should at least take the seasonal flu shots.

DOH offers H1N1 for all school kids, and also, at certain location, so if people want it, they can get it here in NYC (may be we are the high risk location).
Well... I thought that Gabriel 反應慢.. in fact, he doesn't feel the needle very much as the needle is really thin and short.
so far no side effect notice..
but Gabriel has mild asthma attacked last night, when he ran up stair and down stair to trace behind Amanda.. When I saw him held his knee sat near the stairs, deep breathing.. that broke my heart just like when I was young.. having asthma attack..
So I grabbed him and ran downstair and had nebulization immediately. that was a bit scare.

Yes, H1N1 shots are so short of supply in Bay Area. Actually, even flu shots for kids are run out of supply. I kept calling the ped clinic every week to check if the shot is really for my kids. Amanda took the normal flu shot 2 months ago but Spencer was not given one as he's older. Last Thursday, my hubby have to take the my 2 kids to see the pedi as they both coughed so badly. The doctor gave them both H1NI and Spencer was given both H1N1 and flu shot. I am so relieved now.

Amanda took the mist and Spencer was given the injection. He has mild asthma sympton started this year. Once the weather changes, he will cough very badly and the doctor said that it's allergy. Dust and cold weather can trigger it and he can cough all day. Both kids did not cry. Spencer did not notice the first shot and he just screamed ouch for the 2nd shot. I find it kind of funny. But, when I asked him if he cried, he told me yes and he showed me the 2 "special" bandages when I gave him a bath. He cried when I took them off his arm.

your kids are lucky ... as the Sanofi's H1N1 injectabe vaccine is the best kind (without mercury at all) and of course it doesn't contain weakened live virus as the mist. i think they should be fine. if our pedi. offer that for my kid, i wouldn't hesitate to let him take it.

when i spoke with the receptionist in our pedi's office last time, she told me that it'll most likely be the mist if available for my kid. i guess maybe they'll need to reserve the injections for the much younger kids and especially those who have chronic medical condition such as asthma. anyway, they still haven't called us yet.

there's a large shortage of supplies of H1N1 vaccines (esp. the mercury-free injections) in the bay area in California. even my friend is a pharmacist, she couldn't get one for herself and her 2-yr-old. as she didn't wanna wait too long for her kid to take the vaccine, she just let her to take the mist instead. my friend's 4-yr-old who has the same pedi as my kid's, was able to get the injection (with traceable amount of mercury but it's like 25 times less than the multiple-dose ones), becoz he had asthma attack history when he's younger.
also, i have a couple of pregnant girlfriends are not able to get one either.

Amanda is a pre-asthmetic.. and Gabriel has pneumonia before he turns 1. So, peds did not allow them to take the spray. And I personally don't refer the spray as well.. as it is live virus..
Amanda cried crazily... well... girl tended to be like that.. I don't mind..
but for Gabriel, he did not cry at all, and just looking forward to have his bandaid and his sugar free lollipop... well... he is the one whom ask us for the shot, he said that he wants that needle.. when he got into the office,

just like a monster kid. And peds heard it.. so, he has his needle as well (as it was just arrived at that evening).
I reported it to my boss, just in case, if side effect comes out, I will call "child in sick" immediately
At least have to observe for 10 days.. so exhausted.

peds called us to send Amanda back in for the H1N1 today.. well.. they want 4 years old and up child to take it, so Gabriel doesn't need to have it.
Well... we will send Amanda to the clinic and will discuss before they give it to Amanda.. seems.. the situation.. is .. peds worries about the swine flu.. more than the side effect from the spot..
let's see.. I will update it when I go online.

the best person to ask.. is your peds!
that person has to deal with all the sick kids everyday. so s/he can determine if it is necessary for your lil one to have the H1N1 flu shot.
If your child is going for the flu shot, nurse should separate your child from the sick kids..

i am still 15/16 to let him take the h1n1 vaccine cos he is too young..... but i am so worried about the worse h1n1 situation coming out.....i dont know what to do....

I let them to have the seasonal, as they had it every year.
I will wait unless their peds' requests us to do so.
My peds, he did not allow his only grandchild to have it whom is about 1 year old..

Those cases happened in Canada and Taiwan, and the vaccines manufacturers/suppliers are different than those in US.
