Yes. I agree with you that I keep Passport is illegal but usually I talk with my maids and explain to them why I have to do it in order to avoid them to borrow money and they also understand and agree with written authorize letter to me. Of course, if they insist to get it back, I will return to them immediately and also I will know what might happen in future. It is lucky for me that for so many years, all my maids give me their passport for keeping in my vault.
That is like what I just mention about the laws of annual leave and also the exit to Macau or China. This is also apart from law, there is also consideration, favour, and convenience.
You always mention about the $200,000 which my mother gave to her maid who took care of her for more than 10 years especially in hospital, I really dont know what is wrong with it. Maybe you dont believe it. Can you also see that sometimes some peolple can donate much money to help people. Maybe you and me cannot do the same but we cannot say that it is unbelieveable

1. You cannot stop any person to challenge the law if they want to arise troubles. Even in HK, many HK citizens or organizations challenge the law until the Supreme Court.
2. I dont have any evidence to prove all employers not to give 7 days annual leave to the maids after one year working with the employer and let them exit HK or not allow the maids to return home after finishing contract. Only by practice , employers will not let maids on leave after one year and also some employers also not allow maids to go home after finishing contract otherwise why many maids need to exit to Macau or China after finishing their contract
