This is true! I saw a lot of them selling all kinds of stuff, food, clothes, shoes...you named it....at the carpark in front of the church in Central. I discovered my previous and exisiting maid cooked a lot of rice on Saturday and they tried hiding them and took them out to share with their friends in Sunday. My exisitng maid tried taking cans of coke on Saturday and took out on Sunday. Once I discovered, she denied and now she didn't do it anymore!

I gave my 2 maids $300.- each as meal allowance (1 is old contract and the other one is new contract). I don't provide breakfast and lunch but she can use rice and oil, etc. In fact we seldom have lunch at home even on holidays as we need to work. Only the kids eating at home after school. For dinner we usually eat at home so they eat the same as us. And when we are not eating at home sometimes I provide food sometimes not. If there is leftover food that we don't need, I will let them to handle. For that reasons I arrange the food allowance this is way which I seems that it's fair to each other.

If we order food like KFC, etc. we will ask them if they want (even for lunch). Sometimes (though very rare) they will say they don't need as they have their own leftover food.

I hope that this is good enough la..........esp for the old contract maid which I am giving her more than the contract requriement.......

But sometimes I will think the food now is really expensive. e.g. the cheapest bread that nearby my home is $6.0 for 6 pcs. If you eat 2 pcs for breakfast (which is quite normal), it costs you $2.0 already. + the coffee, butter, peanut butter, etc., it costs you $3.0 - 4.0 already. So..........in fact my 2 maids also eat much rice. but as long as they are not eating too much and not taking the food that I bought for the family (I usually bought food for 1 week on weekends), I will keep my eyes half close half open.

Also I told them that they are not allowed to bring food out from home (except for their own ones). And they are not allowed to cook their "big" holiday food at home. my freind told me that some maids will cook much food on Saturday night and bring out to share with the freinds on sunday. The food is at the own cost but of course the oil, energy etc are at the employer's cost.

yes, so I buy her food for her instead of giving the food allowance. I buy frozen chicken wings, chicken legs, fish, pork chops and pork ribs, eggs, salty eggs, bread, apples, noodles, soya sauce, oil, salt and sugar for my bun. I spend around $400 per month. She will eat my rice and vegi when we cook them for dinner.

She buys her own coffee, biscuits, peanut butter, etc at her own expense! She asked me for coffee when I first came, but I asked her to buy it for herself! hehe....

So $3580 + $400 + $ to replace broken things + $electricity, gas, water = $5k or MORE?!!! hehe

The worst thing is they spend a lot of electricity, gas and water, oil, mine even eat a lot of rice! So if giving them money just to buy their own food and we still have to prvide the rest for them, it won't save anything at all!

係啦,所以我都覺得好煩,但係又無理由好似而家咁包哂佢D油、鹽、米、糖...。就算講明吾包,但屋企無人時佢用我D野煮食都吾知啦。或者好似另一個MAMI咁比400-500佢買自己既餸,米就豪比佢啦。

If you pay her $7xx with the new contract, how will u ask her buy and cook her own rice? she will use your rice cooker to cook rice every night, which means you need to use the rice cooker twice daily?!

Can anyone tell when is the food allowance going up to $740? I have my contract in the safe, she came last July, so it is $300 or $740? But I don't think it works for me coz she eats a lot of rice and used a lot of oil to cook! And it is hard to monitor her when we are not at home very often!

the only way is to keep checking our oil and rice frequently, so far, it's ok, seems that she hasn't used our things since we have given her food allowance. Besides, seems like she hasn't touched our food/snack so far...hope the "food allowance" strategy works la..

I have an objective measurement of how well she eats living with us for the past few years :-

She is getting fatter & fatter! One day she wore a new dress and I thought she was pregnant!!!!

I also want to just give food allowance but she will eat my rice (it's hard to ask her to buy her own rice and cook in my rice cooker as I cook rice everyday!!!!!) and I think if I give her food allowance, she will eat alot of my rice and use very little of $$ to buy little food, e.g. fish, meat, vegi for herself!

I paid food allowance to my maid. Her contract minimum is $300 but she said not enough, she asked for $500 and we paid her. She ate our rice & cook with our ingredients (oil, salt & sugar...). Problem is she cooks "big feast" for herself e.g. fried porkchops, chicken etc., i.e. better than what we eat! And she spends so much time on her cooking. When our relationship was better in the past, we often ordered food for her too eg. KFC, pizza hut, mcdonld's but she didn't even say thank you. So we no longer order for her. We feel sorry for her. But at least she doesn't have to cook breakfast for us!

我比左FOOD ALLOWANCE,早餐同午餐佢都要食自己,因為我2個仔返哂學,到4點先返。我工人吾食豬,晚飯有豬又吾會比佢,只比魚同菜,所以佢吾可以成日"痴"我地食。
