Hi all Oz mommy, would you mind share your experience with me?
Since we are planning move to Oz in coming months, these days I am brainstorming the stuffs I should bring along with. I have lot of concerns and uncertainties, would you please give some suggestions?
1) About furniture -- did you take your used and new furniture from HK to Oz? Since I'm not sure the rental houses in Oz would be usually fully equipped or not, and would the furniture sizes match Oz household needs.
2) About daily necessaries -- did you buy bulky "M-towel", "Temple", diapers, shampoo etc. before moving to Oz? If I transfer all these things through a cargo, would it incur import duty? In contrast, if I transfer all these through my personal luggage, even "bulk volumn", is it ok?
3) About home appliance -- do you think it is worth to buy and shift NEW home appliances from HK to Oz, e.g. washing machine and refrigerator? My concerns are: (a) the prices, (b) any installation standards difference? and (c) any import duties incured? The Custom webpages said they charges tax on items using less than 12 months. But how come they check the used time?
i used reloasia for a full 20ft container (1050 cu ft) and the cost was HKD43,000 (excluding insurance). the service is reasonable, but there is a slight delay with the ship (it is not their fault anyway). I took some ikea furniture from HK to aust too, they did not disassemable the furniture and thus I can still reassembel all the furniture here. if you like cooking, you may consider to but more gears (like blender, mixer, food processor, etc coz my wife took alot here). We had a lot of books (around 50 boxes) and I also took some tools (elec drill, grinder, jigsaw) here.
I am less unfortunate than you.
I used Asian Tiger, also recommended by friends. Everything was fine until they reassembled our bed and found that they had left the screws in HK!
When we called the agent in HK, he told us to buy the screws and fix the bed ourselves!!! He said if we wanted to claim, we had to wait for people from their company in Australia to come and inspect!
At the end, we fixed the bed ourselves, because we didn't want to sleep on the floor.
did you check you have paid for caller ID services?
HK phone to here should be be a problem. Some house still using very old type Aussie phone jack where you need to buy a adaptor from those "dollar shop". Or you can wait until you apply broadband services, in the ADSL modem package it may include that adaptor too.

Would like to know if the telephone set in HK is suitable to use in HK? Would you recommend to bring to Australia as well?

ngtft, buy a lot just because my kid and I get skin allergy that we have to use specific shower gel. And as fas as I could remember, the "M-towel" in Oz is quite expensive. Also I want to minimize the suffer from exchange rate... haha.

just wonder why you need to bring those (a lot).
If possible, anything made in plastic like big plastic box, bucket etc etc. Here is bloody expensive.
