I am planning to fly back to Canada to give birth at 32 weeks. Can any mummies share their experiences here?
I am so frustrated because I want to give birth in HK. But I need to fly back to Canada to give birth if we want a canadian birth certificate.
REALLY? i didn't know there was a law changed in April 2009 until you brought that up! i am glad my 2 girls were born in 2005 & 2008. then you have no choice but to go back if you really want them to have citizen status at birth.....
The main point is, the law changed in 2009. I am the 2nd generation and IF my child was born in HK, then he will not get the citizenship at birth. For my other two children who were born before 2009, they were born in HK and they got their Canadian citizenship right away in HK in 6 months. So convenient. But now, since the law changes, the consulate staff said that my son is candian only if he is born in Canada. Therefore, I am so frustrated because I really do not want to give birth in Canada.
And flying at week 32 seem a bit risky for me, but I have no choice....I have a job here and I cannot take off too early....
Have anyone fly at week 32 or after ? May you share your experiences? Also, may you share your experiences of giving birth in Canada?
My first two children were C-section. (only because they did not turn their heads around) I am not sure if the Canadian doctors would let me do C-section.....That's my other concern.
have you check ur baby's residence status in hk, if he is born in canada? will he need to be on dependent visa or can u verfiy his pr status in hk?
remember to get a doctor's letter confirming your due date n that u're fit to travel for airline, u'll need it when u check-in, and make copies of all the prenatal test reports. do u need to register in a hospital in canada b4 u arrive?
true! but another point is that if the baby is born outside of canada, he/she will need to fulfill some kind of requirements before he can obtain permanent resident status i think...
