The worst thing was there were lots and lots and lots of ppl for breakfasts, all 4 areas were opened up, but there was still a long line up when I arrived there at around 9:20a.m. My husband and my daughter went for breakfast an hour early, it was much better with less ppl, and he managed to have a 6 ppl table, so I didn't need to line up. So go there early for breakfasts. And it was so difficult to even have a cup of milk tea, or coffee because no cups, no glass, no milk at all! Long line up for soup noodle and fried egg. This was unbelievable to me. My husband found out that it was a lot easier to take food from the room that was located most inside. I don't think I will go there again. It was a resort for conference type, not relaxing.
Here're my sharing:
1. I bought 永東 thru Sunflower at a cheaper prices as we booked 3 rooms. I have been told that I had to change bus at 祈福 for both inbound/outbound routes. However, maybe due to all guests on the bus stayed at Chimelong, so eventually both routes were direct bus to/from chimelong. Be sure, you asked the driver when you were on board.
2. Our rooms were upgraded due to hunter rooms were not cleaned up as promised.
3. We arrived at the hotel by 12:40pm. At the check in counter, there were a lot of ppl, but they worked efficiently. They told me no rooms are ready, then they upgraded one of the room first, so to make one available for us to keep our stuff.
4. We had both our lunch and dinner (after our 8pm circus show) at 彩蝶谷. We didn't bother to go out for food as we thought the prices at 彩蝶谷 were reasonable. The dishes we thought were tasty were: whole chicken, pigeon, 蝦餃, wonton noodle, fried beef chunk with mushrooms. We ordered a big jar of watermelon juice (be sure you ordered freshly squeezed one) which was not on the menu, but worth for the money for a group of more than 4 ppl. After 2:30pm., the restaurant only offered afternoon menu which had less food options to choose from.
5. The Circus show was great! But can't get priority seats even we arrived there about 40 mins early.
6. We visited the zoo on the 2nd day morning. The free shuttle dropped us off at Zoo's south gate, which was the only exit/entrance to get onto the hotel shuttle. There were 2 major zones inside the zoo, one zone was explored by walking, the other one was explored by taking free train but at the north gate. Along the route between south and north, we got to see various animals. It took at least 20 minutes to walk between these 2 gates. So be sure you leave yourself enough time to walk back for hotel shuttle. There was a free shuttle outside north gate (main gate) to go to south gate, but the staff told us the shuttle run every 30 minutes only. The zebra looking shuttle inside the zoo that cost CNY10 pp for 1 way only could not drop off guests at the south gate either.
Yes this was my first time there, I never had such breakfast experience like this, where it was even worse than having a conference.........no cups, no milk, no glass to fill up tea or coffee. I deliberately had a late breakfast, so I didn't expect 大爺般 service e.g. we didn't expect their staff serve us with milk, tea or coffee, but it was really far less desirable than a 5 stars hotel. Even when we stayed at some big hotels in Tokyo, other big hotels in other parts of China, they served customers like conference setting 'cause they know there're a lot of customers, they still had plentiful supply of utensils. . We never experienced with a breakfast without cups and milk and glass. This was really the first time seeing no cups. So my suggestion to those who have late breakfasts: Go to the most inner area of the restaurant, then you will be able to get food.
But we saw was the staff there were trained to serve customers well, so their attitude were fine. We even saw ppl kept complaining : no table, no food, no this and that. We didn't complain about things, but live with it, as we understood there were too too many ppl. Ahd their staff were trying best.
I didn't complain about the food and the food prices there at 彩蝶谷, if you saw it clearly. We deliberately planned not to go out and 叫車出去eg四海一家, as we already tried this restaurant in shenzhen, and ppl in this forum kept sharing that the food outside not really good. We felt fine with the food at 彩蝶谷, at least not a long wait line for lunch, and the food there were not bad at all,and our first lunch cost CNY1000 for 8 persons, but we felt the price was reasonable.
I think except the breakfasts, other things were fine.
I shared mine here because I wanted to let ppl know what they should be expecting. If they go for late breakfasts, probably the same things happen.
Another side story. The people stayed in the two rooms opposite to my room made loud noise and opened their doors at 7am, so to let their "gangs" came from other rooms to come in and out freely. I opened the doors, and knew that they were HK ppl. I asked one of the men there please close the door. That man , without self judgement, asked a woman with "authority". That woman said " hei, ng sei 理 kui". Then I went out again, gladly there was a young lady who was a understanding ppl, shut the doors immediately.
HK ppl , please behave yourselves. Don't keep complain CNY ppl. Yours could be as bad.
20 minutes did make a big difference then. I arrived at the white tiger restaurant at 9:20am, there was a long long line up. 8a.m would be much much better.
Then you were lucky to have room ready by 1:30p.m. When we returned to the reception by around 3p.m, they still had no rooms for us and was not willing to change us to other rooms that were available ('coz the reception said they locked in the room already, so the later comers could still get rooms ). But I insisted that they promised me rooms were ready for us by 2p.m. So they eventually they upgraded us.
But we thought 彩蝶谷 was reasonably good, esp. its pigeon and the whole chicken.
