I see. Seems that you are a right canidate for taking DHEA.
I have similar case as you. Age 40, high fsh and tried several times of ivf already.
I understand it is natural for you to try different way to improve your chance since this will be your last ivf at the public hospital. However, be positive and never give up. Hope you will be success in your next ivf.
Wish your "cycts" will disappear next cycle.
When do you plan to start your next ivf?

Hi,

I failed 2 IUI & 2 IVF before. My FSH is ok ~7.5 and Age 40 but the egg quality was not good. The eggs were divided into 5 cells only. Therefore, I started to take DHEA. I will start IVF treatment in August (take DHEA for 12 weeks at that time). Does DHEA can be work to improve the egg quality after taking 12 weeks only?

Hi mailmail,

I am also age 40 but I have extreme high fsh. I also did several failed ivf in the past.
From BK and info from the web-site. DHEA start taking effect once you start taking it and it will reach its maxnium performance after 4 months of taking it. In fact, you can measure your DHEA-S level to see how it affect your body.

Did you check the DHEA-s before taking it? Why do you want to take DHEA, any doctor recommand you to take it?

what is your situation??? What is your FSH level? How many ivf have you tried so far? If you really want to see the DHEA effect, you should take the DHEA-s blood test before taking it, then test again after taking it, see how much your body is absorbing, also, you can do the Day 3 FSH test as see whether the DHEA is helping...

My FSH is 10-15. Had 1 cancelled IVF + 2 failed. Yes, understand I need to test FSH later to see if any effect by DHEA. Will have IVF in Oct / Nov and will see how it works then.

I felt very disappointed because I need to stop the IVF treatment after injecting 3 doses of Gonal-f. There was only one follicle was growth and the other very small follicles were not responding to prescribed drug. I had already took DHEA for 12 weeks before starting the IVF treatment. The reason for taking DHEA due to the quality and quantity of follicles were not good (My age is 40 & last FSH was 7.5 but this time FSH was 14 after taking DHEA). Why my FSH was in increasing trend (my FSH range:7.5-8.5 for 6 times on menses Day 3)?

I am sorry to hear that. I understand how you feel.
In fact, the day 3 fsh can varies greatly from month to month. Your increase in day 3 fsh value do not neccessarily indicate a trend. So don't be too upset. Since you have done ivf before and have already know how your ovary responds, your day 3 fsh do not have much meaning, the actual performance of your ovary mean more.

DHEA claim to improve egg quality and quanitities but not neccessarily improve the fsh value, so this may not be the effect of DHEA either.

As a matter of fact, DHEA claim to increase the amount of eggs produced in stimulated ivf cycle and the egg quality, ie. the no. cells divide in embyro. However, doesnt it really lead to successful pregnancy? I doubt about that.

I see sisters in this blog has greatly improved amount of egg and embyro division after taking DHEA, but afterall, I didnt see this lead to any successful pregnancy so far. So, I guess we all should treat taking DHEA as an supplementary treatment on top of over existing one. But do not put too much hope or too high expectation on this.

Hi sisters,

I agree with Ruby, we should not put too much expectation on DHEA, just like Chinese medicine, different people may have different reaction to these supplements.

Some research in the US shows that some ladies will have lower FSH after taking DHEA, but not very significant. We just hope that it will help to improve our egg quality.

My friend who I know her in person got pragnant after taking DHEA and Co-enzyme Q10 in her 2nd ivf. She did her 1st ivf in the UK, she did not response well to the drug, the doctor there asked her to consider to use doner's eggs. She was very upset. Then last Dec, she moved to HK and had her 2nd ivf in HK, suprisingly she got 4 embryos, in the 1st transferred, she did not get pregnant. Luckily, she got pregnant in her 2nd transfer. She is now 4 months pregnant. She always encourages me not to give up, just keep trying....

All sisters, pls come up here to give us more updates, as this supplement is very new in HK, not many doctors will recommand to ivf patients.
