Easyma and other SC mamas : my girl went to Tuen Mun riding school last Thurs. Luckily, it was a sunny day. Better watch out the weather, as the forcast says it is getting cooler in the next few days.
I am rather lazy, seldom do revision. Do it when the handbook requests. Just go through them 1-2 times, becaue my girl hates too much repetition of something she alreays knows (In fact, I had tried to take the initiative years ago to force her revising what she learned from school, but she refused, and so I gave up taking the lead). Luckily, she seldom makes mistakes in the school revision worksheets. I think the most important point is let's her to take the initiative. Since she started schooling at 2, she is quite able to take the initiative, depending on her mood. I also will not teach and preview the materials before the teachers, otherwise she will lose interest in class.
But recently I start to teach her some CHinese vocab, buying flashcards, partly she doesn't like Chinese and partly SC's CHinese standard cannot be compared to its English.
Like your son, my girl also shows progress, a few "1"s (independent, fluency in Cantonese speaking and able to express herself). Her comment was from her English teacher, the same old problem: insufficent confidence in oral. Her last report was all "2"s. She also demands all stars. Of course, impossible for the same reasons. Moreover, she behaves in a different way at home (a wild monkey at home, a tame sheep at school). I only give her a few stars (sleeps early and wakes up early, able to brush teeth) and 1 "S" (picky on food).
What a shame on me! I really have to work hard to catch up with you and easymama. My girl spends 30 minutes to finish the homework, not because she does not know and she is slow, but she spends most of the time to colour the pictures and draw. I just do a little revision before and/or after homework, i.e., homework- and assessment-based. As to 詞彙小天地 (also the Chinese flashcards in the red packet), my impression and my girl's recall is that this aims to introduce some other vocab for mere recognition purpose only, as these vocab are not asked in assessment, and they are not and/or seldom repeated and frequently revised in class.
yes, took a long time to write "I". But hasn't written "You," perhaps today.
To all mamas:
besides school stuff, any encouragment to your kids to acquire extra knowledge? My sister-in-law encourages her KG kids to watch and learn both local and international News, e.g., 911 and budget proposal. Mine knows several kinds of sharks.
