when i did my first iui, i also took the chinese medicine as my chinese ec is familiar w/ the procedures & he said it's ok. i didnt consult dr ho cos i have an impression that the western doctor usually doesnt hold a positive opinion in taking chinese medicine while doing fertility treatments.
but later after i've failed, i stopped cos i was too tired visiting both doctors & taking chinese medicine everyday (fyi, i've taken medicine for 10 months already), just felt so stressed at that time.
i think as long as your chinese ec is knowledgeable in fertility treatment, it should be ok.
i totally agree w/ u, it's such a good idea to let both your body & mind rest for one whole month, dun need to think of injections & all the timing stuff. i was just like that in dec when i needed to rest for the whole month. i did what i wanted to do for long - trip to tokyo (shopping shopping ), massages, eating my favourite sushi etc & didnt have to worry about affecting the result. hope you'll have a great time this month!
for progesterone level, the dosage of vaginal tablets are stronger in ivf than iui & u need to take blood test for it 2 days after ET, basically u will be closely monitored. so dun worry too much. keep your faith in your doctor & stay relax.
dr ho didnt prescribe any BCP for pretreatment for ivf, instead i need to take nasal spray 4 times a day. do they have similar function?
As far as I know, the BCP in the pretreatment stage of IVF has different function from nasal spray, sometimes BCP is precribed to be taken concurrently with the nasal spray. Actually, I have so many questions about IVF that I am so looking forward to see my doctor this Sat to get everything sorted out. I don't know if I will be using the long protocol or short one. It seems they both have pros and cons. Cdecde, did dr ho explain to you why you used long protocol?
kelly,
great to hear that you will start IUI soon. After taking chinese medince, I am sure your chance of sucess will be much higher. Does the wait at Dr Tay long? I have heard from other sisters that not only is the waiting list long for first appoinment but also the queue is long at the clinic.
cpbaby,
I agree with Chinpearly that as long as the Chinese EC is familiar with IUI and IVF, it should be ok to take chinese medicine concurrently. But of course if you ask western doctors, they will most likely suggest you not to. It is funny when you ask the Chinese EC if you should do IUI or IVF, they will also advise you not to and just take the Chinese medicine only.
Like cdecde, before I started my IUI treatment, I also had taken chinese medicine for 9 months. At that time, I was so frustrated and tired although my BBT had improved. I never knew of IUI or IVF. I remember I kept asking my EC 如果繼續食中藥都唔得咁點?He kept telling me not to worry. Then I asked him again and again, he finally told me I could consider to do IUI or IVF. After that I didn't see him again.
shela,
I was at first quite confused about the blood tests during IUI. At first, I was only asked to take blood test on Day 3 of my cycle to check the basal hormone levels, like FSH, LH, Prolactin, E2, etc. 7 days after IUI, I was asked to take another blood test to check the progesterone level.
Later I found out that sometimes, blood test for LH and E2 levels is taken after a few days of ovulation stimulation to monitor the response and detect any premature LH surge. I have done IUI with this latter blood test and also without. You should discuss with your doctor about it.
ChinPearly,
yup, Dr Tay is nice . which is very improtant, right? heee
how long u usually wait each time? i've waited almost an hr yesterday.
besides, any hibit of Dr Tay doing iui? like what time of the day he do iui ?
and regarding the egg releasing injection, is it done ourselves at home ?
is Dr Tay using injection after iui instead of vaginal pills?
i heard the nurse said the queue is up to mid apr .
and i've waited for an hr yesterday.
no matter what , just do what i can do and knowing God will guide me.
hope sat come soon and u can know more clear about ivf . best wishes
Totally agree. A nice dr will help ease our pressure.
How long do I have to wait? It all depends the previous patients. Sometimes, I only have to wait for half an hour. The longest is 1.5 hour. Sometimes, as I know, some patients may have a lot of questions or worries. Then, Dr Tay will spend a lot of time in counselling. Just like last time, when I was certified miscarriage. He spent quite a long time with me and comfort me. So, he is really a dr with heart.
Nothing very special in doing iui. He uses injection. He will lend you a gun 針槍 which will help you do injection at home. It's very easy and convenient. Not much pain except the two injections after iui. It's a bit painful but i'm sure we all can stand it.
What time of the day he do iui? Normally, it is in the morning, around noon. Cos you have to go sperm washing at around 8 am and then back to the clinic around 11 am. It should be 24 - 30 hours after doing the egg releasing injection.
BTW, he tells you to do two iui and if not, IVF. Did you tell him that you have succeed last time though in vain at last? It's because in my case, I succeeded in the 2nd iui, that means, my chance is getting bigger. I can proceed with iui and no need to do IVF. He said he only advised patient to do IVF if fails for 3 times iui.
You can ask a lot of questions and he won't lose patient.
Not really necessary. To my experience, I see dr tay during lunch hour and then bring it back to office until 6 pm and then back home. So, I think it's OK. As long as the weather is not very hot and you are not staying outside for too long.
Yes, the medicine must be kept in the fridge. Nurse told me to put in the bottom of the fridge where we normally put vegetables and fruits.
Just slip out for shopping for two-three hours is fine.
nurse first asked me to go at 1:15, but it's not convenient to me, she said it's fully booked in the afternoon.
i prayed after the phone call, and the nurse called back said i can come at 3:45 ! it's really amazing. God listen prayers.
thanks for your blessing. of coz, i don't expect too much.
it's great to hear that you've visited dr tay & you can start your treatment so soon! what a great progress! & looks like he is a really nice doctor, willing to spend so much time w/ each patient. i'm sure u are in good hands.
when will you start your injection? wish you good luck & all the best. & remember to stay relax!
you are really knowledgeable even b4 starting your ivf treatment! i dun even know there is a long & short protocol?! what are the differences? i guess i had no choice becos i had the left-over cysts every time, so i had to rest for another month anyway.
plus, i'm still quite confused about the different hormone levels & what the blood tests are for, i only have short term momery!
did u also have gonal-f injection in last iui? in my case, i had better reaction to gonal-f & i only had 7 injections in total (which saved me some $$ :-P ).
anyway, i'm sure your doctor will give u detailed explanations about the procedures of ivf. do u know yet are you going to do it at clinic or hospital?
oh, how come you cant do iui if day 1 is on sat? cant you go to dr on day 3 & start injection? but anyway, next cycle is not far away & u can enjoy your time w/ your daughter this month!
i also didnt have blood test done during iui, only once b4 starting iui treatment on day 3 for the normal hormones. may be u can ask your doctor whether u need to take it next time?
i'm a bit nervous as i didn't do all injection myself before. but i guess i can manage.
the most difficult one is my son. as i'm too gentle to him before, it's hard to find my authority now. ..
i need to stay strong.
one funny thing is , my son asked me why i didn't gave birth to many babies?
dun worry, it's very simple & easy to do the injection, & not painful at all. i'm sure u can handle it well.
oh, your son already asked about baby? that's really funny. my son's teacher is pregnant, but my son never mentions anything about her big belly. guess he is still small to understand such things.
I went to see doctor last sat to discuss the IVF things. Let me give you all an update.
Doctor said the long protocol is suitable for me. Because I want to take a month break, I will start the surpression injection day 21 in next cycle (April) and should have egg retrieval in mid May. Doctor recommends that I should take birth control pills at the beginning of next cycle to make sure there are no cysts and to make the cycle more predictable. Sometimes I think it sounds ironic since what I am doing is to get pregnant but at the same time I need to take birth control pills. Anyway, I will do as doctor said la.
cdecde,
Do you remember was blood test day2/3 of the same cycle that you start the nasal spray?
