What should we consider to bring from HK?
if you are going to vancouver, you pretty much can get everything there. what i can think of may be some electronics, tv etc that hk has better model and more advance. but one thing is that to check fro warranty. even thought you might be buying brand names, if you buy it from outside north america, they won't warranty it here. and as oscar said, windows covering is a good idea. however, if you haven't bought a house yet, you probabyly wouldn't know what to get.
What is the living standard in Vancouver?
the living standard .... that all depends whether you like to be trendy and stuff. but as for daily living, it's one of the highest in canada. but that i've been living here for over 10 years... i don't know how to compare.
What is the job situation?
job situation is not good in vancouver, that's for sure. i've known several people that they are still out of job for over a year. what's your occupation/ field?
Anything we have to consider to bring for a baby?
nothing. you can get anything and everything for kids in here and they can be cheap if you go to places like wal-mart.
Any useful website that I can have a clear picture about Vancouver?
that... i'll have to do some research for u
whether you should make a trip here b4 you land.... have u been to van b4? if you can afford it, i think it's a good idea. you can then know which area is better. and vancouver is just a big city on the whole and a lot of people don't live there. they live in richmond/burnaby/coquitlam/west van etc. it's important to settle in a better neighbourhood
Canada and HK had different frequency. TV/VCR must able to switch from 240 to 110v. Also, it can switch from PAL to NTSC. Additional is the coaxial cable is different than HK. As regarding the DVD, same thing as above but make sure it can play CODE 1. Therefore, I recommend those purchase in Vancouver. Do not worry with english speaking, there are so many chinese in Vancouver that pretty much in every corner there is a chinese speaking people.
I always find kids clothes from HK are cuter than Wal-Mart (just personally favour)
oscar: u r right, but wal'mart clothes are so cheap!!! anyhow, i haven't really bought any clothes for my little boy because i got so many pass me down from my cousin. now i got clothes all the way at least till next winter!! i actually like buying clothes from gymboree (on sale of course) and usually bought pjs( because i'm not suppose to buy anything...... hehe) :-P :-P

I see, anyway, that gathering is for girl guides/brownies/sparks in several different districts. I am just thinking if I can meet you or not.
I have received information for the girl guides summer camp within June to August. My girls want to attend, but I have not promised yet. The younger one will be still too small to be away for 3 days. If not letting the younger one go, then it is not fair for the elder one to go!! (The younger one will think like this!!.)
It was not me at Shishedo, I'm in the middle of a "white" and an Indian.
I had thought of going, but I know there will be a whole bunch of people, so just forget it. I want to know what is Tai Pan Club about. Do you have any idea?
Dear Simmrose, Oscar and Wynne,
Thanks for your reply. I used to live in Australia and I am OK with my language. My husband is a native speaker, so I don't worried about the language part.
I used to work in tourism and logistic industry as a customer service, does anyone know is it easy to get a job there?
- How is the price of buying a computer? Should I buy a desktop or bring my old laptop?
- I want to know which suburb has the best access to public transport?
- I can't afford buying a house first, but I would like to know what is the average rent for an apartment, service apartment or fully furnished apartment? Any useful websites to find more information on rental prices and estate agent?
- For a person who arrives in Vancouver for the first time, can anyone suggest a place where I can stay for temporary with a reasonable rent ?
I went to GAP on Sunday, didn't have this offer :-( :-( . Instead, I bought a polo shirt ("M" size) for my husband as Valentine's Day gift. I gave it to my sister as my brother-in-law was going back to HK on that night. My sister said it was still too big for her husband, so would be much bigger for mine. It has been a long long time that I have not bought anythings for him la, but not fitting ... a little bit unhappy about this.

My husband is in Guangzhou, but he may be going to HK to meet my brother-in-law and my father on 14th night. The shirt is too big la, I have told my sister to ask her husband to bring it back.
It is our 20th anniversary today. I sent him an e-card last night, he had seen it but had no action
:-( :-(
Grace,
I am looking for a bigger place to live now. You could go to www.mls.ca for some idea of housing price. Rental price all depends on the location. If you want to live in some good location like North York, Richmond Hill, a 2-bedroom apartment could be from $1500 Cdn ga...
A desktop computer is around $1000 with monitor. That is like Pentium 4, 17 inch monitor.
I think other than North York, anything close to the Yonge street will be convenient. If you can drive, everywhere is the same. But most of the Chinese stores are in Richmond Hill and Markham. Scarborough is a little old area.
childcare: it depends on the age of your kids.
my son is 19 months old and going to a full time daycare. almost 700 a month. and i would imagine vancouver is a bit higher. but as kids a older they get cheaper. therefore i know there are people that if they have several kids, they might as well hire a maid賓賓。 because the cost is about the same. oscar can help you on that.
yes, www.mls.ca is a good place to look at houses to buy.
computer is cheap in here, bring it or not is up to u.
and your profession, not good. you can take a look at this website www.monster.ca www.hotjobs.ca for work.
At that moment, I only consider to rent a place. I think mls mainly to buy a house. I wonder does estate agent has more options? How much they charge?
Besides, I also want to know about the mobile phone. Should I bring my mobile? Currently I am using a dual band one with GSM & PCS, does it work in Canada? How much usually cost on mobile phone charges?
Since we are new to Vancouver, are there any organization/community house to help the new migrants? What is the web site?
