your wife will "or" you for the expensive flower, but if you had not sent her flowers, she will "or" you also.
the difference between these two types of "or" are :
- has flower, expensive/waste $$/but she loves to have it (mouth "or" heart sweet)
- without flower, no flower on v-day can be on her mouth everyday/she will remember this until next year v-day/can be a complaint to her friends about you, you won't have good days for the coming year
consider the two consequences yourself. lunch box on last month deserve it :-P :-P

oscar, i know what you mean, even i would do the same thing. if my husband really got me flowers( i know he didn't and won't cause i told him not to) i would say that's too expensive. but on the other hand, i would be very happy !! 女人心， 海底針！！ :-P :-P
