I think playing violin is one of the best methods to train one's pitch as you need to use your ears to determine the right pitches while you are playing.This sence of pitches is very important for music training, especially if you want to pass the Graded exam. So I don't think playing violin will hurt your hearing, on the other hand, people who played violin well do have very good "hearing".

You should let your daughter to continue playing violin as she has talent on it.

I'm also a working Mom ,too. Everyday I just spend all my time supervising them to practice. I only have my free time after 11pm everyday.

Does anyone of you know about a pianist called Warren Lee? I want to know more information about him, thanks.

我囡囡沒有學小提琴, 所以都係我自己個人既感覺, 唔 arm 唔好鬧我

! 我自己會覺得, 多少會對學習者既耳仔有些少影響, 若果我女真係要學, 拉琴既時候, 或者我會考慮比個耳塞放入佢一邊既耳仔, 我唔知咁做 arm 唔 arm :lol: .

Same here! I spend most of my after-work spare time on weekdays in supervising my kids' practices. Sometimes I tend to doubt my devotion as they're neither talented nor hardworking enough, as I said before. Luckily, their school workload is not so demanding so far and they still get some luxury of time on piano-learning at this primary school stage.

I don't have much information on Warren Lee Wai On. All I know ---he's a famous young pianist. Any good plan for your kids? ?-( :mrgreen:

李偉安 Warren Lee | 鋼琴 Piano

剛擔任香港電台第四台「駐台演奏家」的李偉安，畢業於英國皇家音樂學院和耶魯大學，更是一九九五年史達拉汶斯基大獎國際鋼琴比賽的優勝者及普哥利殊大獎的得主。樂評稱讚他為「一位擁有熾熱的技巧…及像賀路域茲般對音色敏銳的鋼琴家。」
李偉安出身於香港，四歲開始學習鋼琴，兩年後初踏台板，便與香港管弦樂團攜手演出，並由電視和電台作現場直播。這位「鋼琴神童」自始經常在港澳的音樂會露面；學生時期的李偉安也有參加香港校際音樂節的比賽，小小年紀已獲獎無數。一九九○年，他初次為香港電台第四台的「樂壇新秀」節目錄音;一九九三年無線電視更為這位「鋼琴神童」拍攝紀錄特輯，在「星期日檔案」節目中播出。

李偉安那與眾不同的大學教育，進一步把他的音樂才華推至世界級水平。首先，他無須參加高級程度考試，即以全費獎學金和入學表演獎，入讀英國皇家音樂學院，隨克里斯托夫•艾爾頓教授學藝。在校兩年，他一直在班上名列前茅，在英國和國際的樂壇多番贏得讚譽。跟著他獲波利士•貝爾文教授看中，招為耶魯大學音樂研究院的學生。二○○○年，他同時在兩所學院以最高榮譽畢業，並奪取了多個獎項。

回港後，李偉安立即展開多姿多采的音樂事業，很快成為香港最受歡迎的鋼琴手之一。目前他是耀中教育機構的音樂總監，全力為香港及中國下一代堷養人才。他又與香港管弦樂團團長金珍秀、首席大提琴鮑力卓合創Opus One三重奏，於二○○一年首次公開演出即好評如潮。此外，他又定期與本地多位音樂好手，如香港管弦樂團首席單簧管史安袓及其他團員舉行雙人演奏會。在○三至○四樂季裏，李偉安先後與香港管弦樂團及香港室樂團合作演出；而他的首張個人專輯亦快將面世。

李偉安可說是才華洋溢，興趣廣泛。他既作曲又編曲，已為多位流行樂手監製和出版了多首作品。除了音樂，他又參加香港業餘籃球聯會舉辦的比賽，同時正在攻讀教育博士學位。

A scholar graduate of Yale University and Royal Academy of Music, Warren was the winner of the 1995 Stravinsky Awards International Piano Competition and the “Grand Prix Ivo Pogorelich”. The critics hailed him as a pianist “with technique to burn, an extraordinary intellect, and a Horowitzian color of romanticism.”
Born in Hong Kong, Warren began his piano study at the age of four, and merely 2 years later at the tender age of six, made his debut with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra under a live TV and Radio broadcast. As a child prodigy, he performed widely as a soloist in Hong Kong and Macau, receiving much attention early on. While claiming annual prizes from the Hong Kong School Music Festivals, Warren made his recording debut for RTHK Radio 4's “Young Music Maker” Series in 1990, and was featured in a documentary in TVB news magazine, “Sunday’s File” in 1993.

At age sixteen, he was accepted on an ABRSM Full Scholarship and an entrant exhibition award to study with Professor Christopher Elton at the Royal Academy of Music in London. After only 2 years in the Bachelor program during which he remained top of his class while claiming national and international acclaims, he was recruited by Professor Boris Berman to join Yale's graduate School of Music. In 2000, he graduated from both institutions with top honours and numerous prizes.

During his years in the West, Warren's artistry brought him to concert stages in France, Germany, England and the United States, appearing both as a soloist and as a chamber musician in festivals such as the Ivo Pogorelich Festival in Germany and Taos Chamber Music Festival in the United States. He has also worked closely with some of the greatest musicians and teachers of today, such as pianists Robert MacDonald, Claude Frank, Peter Frankl; and violinists Erich Friedmann, Peter Oundjian and David Takeno.

Upon returning to Hong Kong, Warren embarked on a versatile musical career while quickly establishing himself as one of the most sought after pianists in Hong Kong. He has accepted invitations to appear as a guest performer on prominent occasions such as the ABRSM Gala Concert 2001, Yale 300th Anniversary Gala Dinner 2002 and the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award Ceremony 2004. As a passionate chamber musician, he is the founding member of the piano trio, Opus One, with violinist Dennis Kim and cellist Richard Bamping, which gave its highly acclaimed debut in 2001 and has since enjoyed a popular rapport among audiences. As an artistic collaborator, Warren frequently performs with eminent musicians of the region, including numerous duo recitals with Principals and members of the HKPO and frequent recordings for RTHK Radio 4.

Currently serving as the Music Director of Yew Chung Education Foundation, he devotes much of his time educating the next generation of young musicians. Students under his guidance have achieved outstanding results in examination and competitions, and have been accepted to prestigious institutes such as the Chetham's School of Music and The Well's Cathedral. He also serves on the part time piano faculty in Chinese University of Hong Kong.

A man with multiple interests and talents, Warren is a songwriter, arranger and producer, and has published a number of works in collaboration with various pop artists. Outside of the music arena, Warren is an enthusiastic basketball player and is also pursuing doctoral studies in Education.

Season 2003/4 sees him appear as soloist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, collaborate with world renowned flutist Trevor Wye in his show “Flutes Fantastic”, as well as serving as the Artist-in-Residence for RTHK Radio 4 in May 2004. His debut solo album “From Bach to Gershwin” is also due for release in Fall 2004.

My son starts learning piano 3 months ago (at 3.5 yrs old), his teacher said he is quited talented.

His teacher also told me that he can pass the grade 3 exam. when he is 5. Is it possible??

好開心我終於等到個女到４歲學琴，學左一個月，我可否加入你哋交流會呢？

見到你哋小朋友咁叻，真係好羨慕，其實俾個女學琴都係情誼結，自己細個好恨學琴，不過冇能力，所以現在就好想個女學得成，我己計畫買琴了，因為自己係門外漢，所以都諗住買新琴穩陣Ｄ，plan買yamaha or kawaiＤ最低價model，最多個女學唔成就自己去學喇(臨老學吹笛)，唔知各位有經驗媽媽可否俾Ｄ意見Yamaha 同 kawai 边隻好Ｄ呢(低價model)？

Hello ryancat,

要五歲多 pass Grade 3 都唔係冇可能, 但通常要考試都要有半年或以上操考試歌, 咁要睇下小朋友會唔會覺得悶左小小喇, 畢竟佢到時都只不過係五歲左右既小朋友; 不過依家 d 小朋友都好叻既, 到時有需要既時候妳未再睇下小朋友既表現再決定啦 :-P .

我亦都有同感，不過鬼叫佢哋係自己心肝宝貝，梗係比Ｄ最好嘅嘢佢啦！所以有好多人都叫自己唔好買琴住，睇吓佢鍾唔鍾意先，我自己又覺得有個琴係屋，佢鍾意又去彈吓，應該會好Ｄ掛，自己又係門外漌，去大琴行買新琴有保證，都有Ｄ担心佢唔鍾意，最壞打算就係自己學

I have the same situation as most of the Bk moms here. I dreamed to be a pianist when I was young but I didn't have chance to touch the piano because of financial reason. So after I grew up and started to earn money by myself, The first thing that I did was to learn piano. Luckily, I met a very good teacher at that time and thus I could finish my Grade 7 piano exam, and now she is my children's teacher ,too.
I have stopped playing paino since I gave birth to my younger son because I really got no time at all.
But I plan to finish my Grade 8 Exam in the nearly future after my son go to primary school this year.

If you can afford to his tution fee(I suppose it will be quite high la), your boy will definitely be benefitted.

Another choice will be HKAPA, their juior music course is reputable and I know their senior lecturer (Wong Yee Lun) will be responsibe for selecting those talented applicants.
