I am back la! I did egg collection yestersday at around 1:30pm. I went in an hour before to get settled down and injected ovidrel myself 36hrs before the procedure (i.e. 1:30 in the morning ah!!).
My doctor was very punctual and started right on time. First the anesthetist told me that he would draw some blood first to test E2, LH and p4, after that, he said he was going to inject anesthesia to me. He said I would taste/smell something in my mouth and then I would fall asleep. That was the last thing I remember him saying. I fell asleep very quickly, may be in 3-5 seconds.
When I began to regain consciousness, I was being brought back to my bed. My husband was with me the whole time, although he was not allowed to stay inside the operation room. He could see through the glass window on the door. My husband told me I asked a lot of questions soon after I began to gain consciouness. I don't remember exactly what I asked.
THe procedure was around 1 hr. The IVF coordinator at HK Sanatorim, Patricia Ho was really great, very knowledgeable and caring. She told me I had 21 eggs retrieved (17 mature, 4 immature)
Before the procedure, I was very nervous and worried because I had never had general anesthesia before. Now that it is over, I think it went well. In retrospect, there really isn't anything to worry about. So, Kelly, don't worry about ER, you won't feel a thing.
After the procedure, I rested in bed for 2 hours until I was fully awake. I had some spotting but it went away very soon. I didn't feel much pain in my tummy, only some discomfort, requiring no pain relieve, although the hospital will give you anyway.
At around 4:30pm, I had my first meal (魚片粥 )of the day. 2 hours later, I went to the toilet. I had to pee in a measuring cup so that the nurse could tell whether I was fit to go or not. I didn't feel nauseaus.
I was starving at 7:30pm and I had dinner with my husband. I was told to avoid oily food but I couldn't resist to eat a few french fries.
As Dr told me I would be at higher risk of OHSS (卵巢過度刺激) than other patients, Patricia told me I could try eating 3-5 egg whites and one banana each day, which work in some patients to relieve the systoms of OHSS.
Then, things started to get worse at night. When I lied on bed at around 11:30pm to try to sleep, my shoulder was in great pain. The pain was so strong that I had to scream for help. My husband rushed in to lift me up. Once I was standing on the floor or sitting, I felt no pain at all. After a few minutes, I tried to lie on my bed again, Oh My! I screamed even louder and almost cried. A few minutes later, my husband asked me to try another posture lying down. It did't work!! Then my husband paged my doctor. Doctor returned his call very soon. He explained to us that there might be some 腹腔積水. The water is creating pressure to 橫膈膜 and the nerve is connected to the shoulder. That's why I felt pain in the shoulder. Dr asked me to used 2 pillows and lie down in a 30degree angle. It worked. I didn't feel pain any more. This morning, doctor called me to see if I am feeling better and yes I am feeling much better now.
I will now wait for the daily update of my eggs/embryos and if I don't have syptoms of OHSS any more, I may do ER Monday or Wednesday.
Thanks for your support. The nurse called me just now. I have 8 embryos of "very good" quality and 5 of "good" quality, but she didn't mention about the grading. She said assisted hatching would be required because the shell is a bit thick. If my body is well, I will have ET on Wed (day 5 transfer).
Kelly,
You already feel 肚 谷? I see that Dr. Tay is asking you to inject 300iu for the first two days to recruit more eggs. Maybe that is why you can feel it happening in your tummy.
very good so happy for u to have very good quality eggs. how do feel today? any discomfort?
wish u have a smooth ET on next Wed.
yup, 300iu for 1st 3 days. i can only trust my Dr as it's no use to worry too much / less eggs or this kinds of matters.
hope i can relax and relax .
cdecde,
how are u doing? i started to thinking of the primary school for my son now .... another issue to consider.
also, summer courses....
it's a bit headache. ..
I need to go see Doctor on Wed and do some blood test before I can be sure I can have ET. Over the past few days, the discomfort of OHSS has subsided. I don't feel bloated at the uterus, but only 胃脹, feels like 食到好飽咁.
checked this noon, there are only about 7 big eggs and some small eggs. Dr asked me to do 300iu injection for 3 more days and back to clinic on Sat noon.
a bit not happy as there are seems not too much eggs. but maybe that's Dr's target. he targets me to have around 5- 10 eggs at the beginning.
your ER result is really great! 13 embryos! both dr & nurse told me that the success rate of ET on day 5 will be a bit higher. hope your ET will go smooth. waiting to hear your good news.
good to hear from u. hope u'll take more rest. take chinese medicine later & i'm sure u can do FET again very soon! did dr say how long u need to rest?
