Amanda is good at taking whole milk. My hubby also said that she eats like a horse some days. She can takes up to 20oz a days (mix of breastmilk and whole milk). The trick is the nipple of the bottle. The bottle we use contains double nipples and the flow is quite low. So, my hubby takes out the internal one and Amanda can drink faster and more now. 2-3 months ago, when I tried to give her a new bottle with faster flow, Amanda refused because the hole was too big. Now, she wants it this way. Well, at least, she drinks more milk but her appetize is not stable. Some days, she wants a lot of food but she sort of eating so little the other days.

I don't see her getting heavier yet but definitely I notice that she's taller. Amanda is walking quite good now -- it took only 2 weeks for her to walk with support to now walking here and there. Yesterday night, I even saw her get up on her own without holding on anything. Baby is just so amazing!!!

That is great that Amanda's eating habbit is back to track.
Wow!!! Amanda can walk now?! That is fantastic. I can't wait for Colin to walk too. Now, he can sit up and I think he should be ready to crawl anytime soon.

Thank you Nillie_Mami & Sy_MOm. Since I'm moving to Flushing real soon. So I'll look for the schools over there. To be honest with you moms. I've been living in the state for 10 years, I'm not familiar with the US education systems. Maybe none of my friends kids are raised here, they all bring their kids to China.

So I really appreciate all the moms who are giving suggestioins!!!! Thank you tons!!!
And when I got to flushing, I still need you moms help!!!!

we are here to help, 反正Amanda同我哋做開荒牛, 咁可以幫到更多家長呢!
Amanda 巳入學個多星期, 啲功課同regular school 好唔同..
但只要可以令Amanda 唔會悶, 每分鐘都滿足到佢嘅求知慾, explore 到佢嘅talent, 正如zic 同Ryan 加好多friends from HK, 讀psycho 嘅意見, 出Manhattan 返學都值得
我哋6am 起身, Amanda 6:30am 起身, 7:15-30am出門口, 30min到學校, 玩20min @ playground至上堂, 3:10pm 放學, 3:30pm - 5pm after school for gifted special talent. 我就放工放4pm, 去school pick up.. Amanda上車食snack 就nap.. about 45min -1hour 返屋企.. 都ok la.
到你小朋友大啲, peds or daycare 發現佢都係gifted時, 咪帶佢去check 吓囉.. 我一路以為Amanda 係ADHD呢

still learning to cope with it. but.. it is better for Amanda's development, I don't mind to co-operate with it.
anyway, wake up and sleep early.. are good for all of us.

glad to hear that amanda's school schedule and commuting work out fine for you all. good that u can finally give her a ride to school. u're such a great mom that u sacrifice a lot for your kids.
there's no way that i can get up at 6am every morning. this month we started to get up at 7am and we all tried to go to bed a bit earlier.

good for amanda to nap in the car when u pick her up. i also tried to have my son to nap in the car when i picked him up at 3:30, but he always said he's not tired although he actually was. he still wanted to go to little gym, swimming, etc.

by the way, would u mind to share with us how are the homeworks different at amanda's school than at other regular schools?
just curious ....

doesn't matter, if that is the way(wake up at 6am), I will work on it.
Now, we go to bed earlier at about 8:30pm to 9pm.. as Amanda said that she can't stay up until 9:30pm.
Today, she went to bed at 7pm.. so I just let her go to bed. Gabriel slept so well at school.. about 3-3/5 hours nap at school, so he is coping very well.
No more tears.

the home work below is in order..

week 1- Friday (day1) : parents has to write the story of our child from birth to five years old on a A4 paper. then wrote down what you expect from school, from teacher and from our child what she/he will learn from school.

week 2 , day 2 : asked child to draw a picture of her study area, and then do the show and tell (we took a picture of it as well). and she has to write a simply story about it.

week 2, day 3: child has to states what her responsibility at home. and what she will do for the class at school. Then she needs to draw about her duty at school.

week 2, day 5: Food pyramid, we have to find all food that will show up in the food pyramid. Child needs to explain why that food is in that category.

Week 3 --this week-- book fair.

afterschool:
monday ---art and craft
tuesday ---story book time
wednesday ---puzzles and games
thursday ---music to my ears
Friday ---Jr. asphalt jungle

Special training: Maths, sciences, and chess right now.. may add more if teacher finds Amanda's talent.

wow, Gabriel napped for over 3 hrs at day-care! he's such a good boy! my son had never ever napped for that long.

also, Amanda is such a good girl to go to bed at 7pm (so early)!
we just started to have dinner at 7pm tonite after my son's finished his homework.

Amanda's homework seems to be fun and creative. the kids will learn a lot from it too.

Mom, you'd made the right decision!

Amanda slept already.. again.. she has her dinner in the car after the after school program. She will sleep thru the night again. She has lots of fun today, the Grade 1 and 2 play cards with her after her after school gifted program.
we wish that we really find the right place for her. So, how is Sean.. he is the same kind of person like Amanda, will he go to take the test as well? do kids in CA go to gifted school as well??

Gabriel woke up at 6am or 6:30am.. therefore, he takes a big nap at day or 2 (2hours) naps at day-- he can't stay awake like others..

so, did you go to school to pick her up from home where you got the dinner box for her? or you just bought her dinner on your way to school?

well ... in CA we're not as lucky as you as there're free public gifted schools in NY. in here, there're only gifted program at the regular public schools starting from grade 3 or 4.

i know there's one private gifted school where is about 30-40 miles from where we live. i heard that it's very expensive (at least $2000/month for tuition) and it's not easy to get in either. the kid has to be truly gifted (i.e. at least scored 130 and above in the WIPSSI IQ test). also, the chance to get in after kindergarten should be harder as spaces are much more limited.
anyway, as it's kinda too far from where we live now, we haven't considered it at this time.

by the way, how many hours of sleeping time each day a 5-yr-old should have?
these days my son started to sleep between 9:00 and 9:30pm, and he usually wakes up around 7am.

every day when i picked up my son from school at 3:30, he seemed to be tired and could easily get cranky for tiny little things.
his kindergarten program starts from 8:15 to 3:30. i thought the program might be a little too intensive for a kindergartner. other than 2 recesses a day and PE twice a week, there're all kind of learning sessions and mostly they have to sit at their own desks.

there're some after-school clubs such as chess, science, golf, etc. (til 5pm) that he wanna join. but he already has swimming, tennis, chinese class and little gym. also, homework every day (about 30 mins) and math/spelling tests every week.

i think i'm a bit exhausted too ...
the school is about 15 miles away from home and about 20-30 mins driving (each way) if i pick him up at 3:30pm. otherwise, the traffic might be pretty bad if i pick him up after 5pm.

we bought dinner on the way to school now. as we would like to take her dinner in the car, and then, she slept, until 7-8pm, she usually woke up, and we will let her to take a good shower, get change, if she wants, she will practice her piano, if not, we have the bed time reading, and she goes back to sleep.
Glad that after school program handler her home work, so we don't need to worry too much.
Usually, for 5 years old, they need at least 10 hours sleep each day.
Amanda class starts from 8:20am to 3:10pm, afterschool from 3:30pm to 5 pm strict, if we request for early dismissal from afterschool program, we need to submit the doctor notes.
she has recess and PE everyday, as they are all "lil monkeys".
Stanford offer gifted program for age 4 years old and up. and that may be good for you.. you can check about that.
We don't want to add any thing to Amanda's schedule, she is too busy for the weekday, and weekend-- she still has 2 more class for piano and music theory. after that, it is her free time, for her CD rom games, yard fun, and ice cream time. Sunday is family day. no school, no class.

Is PK = preschool?
I'll be moving to Flushing where the PS 107 is very close to my new home. It's PK -6 , does that mean I could apply for my 3 year old?
Is it better, the private preschool or public preschool?

PK at public school system is from 4 years old. so, your duaghter is not old enough, if you insist to send her to day care, you can find the private one.
at flushing, there are heaps..
depends on your child, you want her to study in English environment? chinese environment? reasonable price or the private one which is expensive?
you may ask babygigi, Jayne, rachel, shamom, so cloudy or more.. all their child are in different day care centers this year.

Hi, i am in Maspeth, close to Elmhurst. it's very close to flushing.

My boy goes to daycare for part time now, from 8:30-1pm. This yr, they're accepting kids who's born in the yr of 2004 for Pre-K. My older one was born in Jan 05, so he will not be going to Pre-K til Sept 09. By that time, he will be 4yrs 8 months old. Pre-K registration starts in March or April every yr...

Some of the private daycare they provide free Pre-K (2.5 hrs/day, 5days/wk) or, we can send our kid to PS if the school provides Pre-K. I am still not really sure if we'll send our older one to PS58 for preK next yr, or stay in the same preschool he goes now.. will see..
