聖心in Quarry Bay has no kinder, so I guess u went to Caine Road?
I went to 北官 open day. They repainted the old building and built a new building. The play ground is small compared to the size of the school, and has no facilities like jungle jim or swings...just 3 basket ball court size piece of land in 3 separate places.
Has computer, music and audio-visual room (with head phones for learning languages). I read their posting last year and most of their students was assigned to Sau Kei Wan Public Secondary school. 10 years ago, most would go to band 1.Now, only 30%. Certainly not my first choice.
My boy will enrol in 衛理堂 N1 next Feb (2nd term) as he is a small b. It is a good school if u do not wish to push your b too hard. Teachers and even 'ah sum' are very nice and polite. Kids are very happy there. No dictation, No exams, lots of field trips.
But if u want your b to enrol in a famous primary school, the standard may be lower than traditional /famous kinder like 蘇浙,明我, which drill with lots of homework and tests.
It is your choice how u want your b to be: high standard or happy
Jasmine,
Thanks for your sharing! Of course, I want my baby to be happy during her childhood. But, I'm afraid she will be very hard when entering primary school, so just "心大心細".
Do u know the possibility of entering 衛理小學 for 衛理堂幼稚園學生? The principal told me they dont have direct relation, but around 70% of their student will enter 衛理小學 . And, do u know any about 衛理小學?
Is your baby boy or girl?
Mine is a boy. According to 衛理website, over 70% of their kinder went to their p.1 last year. But we do not know how many succeeded because they have older brother/sister their. With over 20 points in the first round, they have a high chance of success. With 15 points, success in the first round is minimal. Then u have to go to the lottery in the 2nd round.
In 2004, 66% of 衛理小學graduates went to band 1 secondary, but they refused to give updated data since 2004...may be results have slipped?? I don't know. Many parents say it is a very good school and the kids are happy, but of course the standard is not as high as brand name schools like St Jo or Wah Yan. Yet, it is hard to get into St Jo or Wah Yan.
We can only try our best and fate decides the rest in the lottery, as we do not have 20 points.
Jasmine,
Really thanks for your info. I must put more effort in understanding the kindergartens and primary school.
Yes, I heard Canossa is good.
Will your son in AM or PM class? Will you attend the briefing at 衛理堂 on 6th July night? We may meet there!
Thank you.
Jasmine,
I also apply it late, so only pm class. But I have submit the application to transfer to AM class. Hope can change it soon, because my bb has sleep from 2:30 to 5:00 everyday.
For changing to am class, need to be done very soon and very intensive. Last year, when my girl was accepted to Victoria PM class, I submitted the change request via fax just on the next day i received the acceptance letter and was placed in the no. 12. I waited for 1 year and was not offered any am position because not that many dropouts.
This year, when my girl was offered pm class to Sacred Heart, I immediate fax a request to the school upon receiving an offer. Then after the first registration date, a second letter was fax to follow up. I sent telephone contact to enquire the progress each time. Then, on the 3rd letter was sent in April on the day the books and school uniforms were ordered. Finally, I got a phone call for successfully changed one week later.
I was told to visit the head-master in person for a higher chance but as a working mother, it's not possible for me to do so and thus, active follow-up was chosen.
