Hi JP,
Let's discuss a little bit more on the Sonatina.
Similar to your sonatina, our song has a lot of singing in the right hand and it helps the child to appreciate the music by singing along. There are many common techniques between playing piano and singing, e.g. breathing and phasing.
Many teachers make up story to teach children to appreciate musical expression. An older child can make up his own story. For example, a happy song can be going on a picnic with one's best friends... so along they race, chase, hope, play hide and seek, sliding down, or swinging up and down for a <> etc. Children can remember better, see better and feel better with pictures in mind.
I hope these suggest are useful to your son's practice.

Hi JP,
To slow down, the best way is playing with the 拍子機. The 'story' will help also as the child move from one vision to another and listening his playing phase by phase. It is also good to listen to the CD, and I have seen a recording for the Sonatina Album at Parsons and Tom Lee. Listen to others too in a Sonatina competition to learn from others' strengh and mistakes. You can also try videotaping his performance and play back for him to 'listen to himself'.
My son is only playing a quartet with his schoolmates in this year's Music Festival.
