No method la! You'd better issue your ticket 1 year in advance. I am not kidding. Last year I called Asiamiles to redeem a ticket to Sapporo in Sept for travel in July, I was put on the waiting list ..... In the end, I had to pay for my tickets - fortunately, I booked my tickets separately in March, otherwise, no seats even if u pay! You may consider UOB Platinum Visa, 4 times mileage (i.e. $3=1mile)

UOB is the bank's name (from Singapore). I can't explain more. You need to have enough miles in your Asiamiles account only when you issue your ticket. In other words, u need not have enough miles as long as u are still on the waiting list. But of course, once your ticket is confirmed, u have to have enough miles....
My husband & I already have 35,000miles each, but there is no seat for us to issue a ticket!

所以我之前將bank d分轉哂去asiamiles以為可以換機票, 而家都有d呻笨.

I have a very good experience to redeem the air ticket through Asiamiles. As every times I go to Japan I'm always redeem from them.
For my experience, you have to book the ticket in advance. Like coming CNY, I plan my trip to Sapporo to Ski. I hv book the direct flight fm HK - Sapporo in June 06. However, it is almost full for some day and even they don't allowed to put me in waiting list. Then, I make other option:-
1. CX - to & return HK - Tokyo. I buy domestic flight to & return to Sapporo and it cost approx HK$1800/person.
2. JAL - to & return HK - Sapporo via Tokyo or Osaka.
Finally, I have chose CX to & return HK - Tokyo due to the flight availability as to fix my girls holiday.
Moreover, I have also made the reservation for July to & return - HK - Sapporo. Of course, the CX direct flight is full then I book JAL via Tokyo and they have seat available for 3 person.
I think the technique is you need to check different possibilities, either direct flight to Sapporo or via Tokyo/Osaka for JAL....etc. By the way, the mileages need for JAL is also 35,000 points and you have 1 more stopover in Tokyo or Osaka.

I tried to redeem tickets from Asiamiles for nearly 3 years but I have never succeeded once! I understand they take bookings 1 year in advance. I called to issue tickets exactly 365 days before departure, they said it's full - of course, the flight is not full. It's just that either the airline does not release any seats for booking until the last minute when they can't sell the seats for money, or the seats released for redemption are really fully booked - but I doubt if there are always people made the booking ahead of me on that same day(s)!
Asiamiles always excuse that popular routes such as CX from HK to Sapporo (the only direct flight) & Dragonair from HK to KK only have 1 flight a day - they always desell me to redeem tickets to Taipei or China!
I checked my record again, my husband & I have accumulated 70000+ & 50000+ miles already. I am afraid I have to redeem tickets to NZ or USA!
Relatively speaking, redemption to Tokyo is definitely easier or u have to consider the really low season. My 2 cents.

我仲未"草"夠mileage喎....請問what's UOB Platinum Visa? $3=1mile?? i'm spending $12=1mile. very hard to save.
