1 PRC government will not punish general HK citizen, instead they want to earn their support with perks.
2 I believe it is to HK/Taiwan's best interest to have CCP in power. If in any circumstance, CCP is out, China is more likely to embrace populism or extream nationalism. In such cases, extream actions would highly likely be taken. e.g. public in Shenzhen or Beijing strike on the street forcing government to “protect“ the interest of those PRC citizen living in HK, what do you think a nationalism government would do? Look at what happened in Crimea, in South Africa.
