pls don't take it too serious and feel bad as the kid's still too young. i think his mom might feel embarrassed and she might have told his son that's not nice when they got home.
i had a similar experience. when i took my boy to school, another kid's mom parked right next to our car. when they got down, his mom said, "i like yr car. is it a new one?" i said, "actually we had it or about a year now." however, my boy said, "yr car is not pretty!" i felt embarrassed and told him it's not nice to say that.
