Hi Frisbe,

I will do the same, go to check the follicles and FSH on Day 2 or 3. I just had my period last Fri, but I was in China, did not have time to go to check them, hope I can check next month.

Do you have a symptom that your period duratio is getting shorter than before??? My period used last for about 7 days, 4 to 5 days have to change 3 to 4 napkins, then got lighter on the 6th and 7th days. But over the past few years, it is getting shorter and lighter (amount), now it only lasts for max 5 days, only use 3 to 4 napkins in the first 3 days.

My period is getting shorter in the last couple of years. My Western doctors told me that it not a good sign because the follicles do not have enough time to develop. Older woman like myself tends to have such a problem.

This is why I am taking the DHEA to fight the problem. I readmore about the research on the DHEA. Also, women in the U.S. (chat room) reported the positive effects of DHEA. I hope it will work for me and us. These women said that it may increase the number of antral follicles (the very small follicles seen by ultrasound on Day 2 or 3) and the quality of eggs.

I will have the ultrasound every month to check the antral follicles. However, the DHEA will probably takes 3 to 4 months to have an effect.

Do you mean the cycle shorter od the duration is shorter???

Actaully, my cycle is longer than before, now is over 20days, before was about 28days

Hi, Yim Yee,

I mean if the cycle is shorter, it is not a good sign (both western and chinese doctor told me). The cycle should be 28-32 days. However, my Chinese doctor said that if the period lasts for many days, it is an indication of the weakness (Chinese medicine term) of the woman. I hope I am more clear this time.

I am also doing acupuncture and see whether it helps too. I guess at least no harm.

高齡產婦 , You can get the DHEA from the phamarcy of Watsons and Mannings, but I do not recommand you to take it while you are waiting for bingo after the IUI treatment, as you need to take at least 16 weeks before you can see the effects.

Frisbe,my cycle is get longer than before over 30days, but duration is shorter, only 3 to 5 days. I know too long duration is not good, but too short is not good neither... I am quite worried about that actually.

高齡產婦, I got my DHEA in GNC. It is located at California in Central. The phone number is 2299-3390. I paid $1,060 for 6 bottles with 90 capsules each. It is a sale. This will last me for 6 months. They are white color capsules.

I am not completely sure whether we can take DHEA after IUI or embryo transfer. My GUESS is that it does not harm because we also produce DHEA in our body. I had the DHEA checked when I had my blood profile before my last ivf. I will ask around and get more information about that.

Yim Yee, I think you do not need to worry too much about your period. The DHEA is supposed to help women who have difficulty in getting pregnant. My period was never regular even when I was younger. ivf is exactly the method to overcome that problem. Did you do ivf before? My Chinese doctor said that acupuncture can regulate period too.

I think we need to find out what is the main problem that we have difficulty in getting pregnant. My husband and I went through so many tests to rule out any possible problems. No problem for him. It came down to one and only one problem now. That is my eggs are too old and too few. It is indicated by my high FSH. The term is "Diminished Ovarian Reserve". Therefore DHEA can help according to the research results. I encourage you both to find out all the problems first before you continue your treatment.

Again, if the FSH is high to begin with, I would advice you to go straight to ivf instead of IUI. My first doctor was so bad that he did not tell me that at my age, women will not waste time in IUI anymore. I did 2 IUI, it is just a waste of time and money.

I got some new information about DHEA. A lady in my U.S. chat room replied to me saying that she is 40 and got pregnant with IUI after taking DHEA. She continued to take DHEA after IUI until her pregnancy was confirmed. She helped me to ask her doctor again and confirmed that we can continue to take DHEA after IUI or IVF until pregnancy is confirmed.

You really should check the number of antral follicles and FSH on Day 3. If you continue to do IUI or IVF, you need to start taking DHEA in order to improve your egg quality. I tried 2 IUI and 2 IVF, the quality of my eggs just continue to get worse. Therefore I am taking DHEA now.

Actually private IUI only costs me about $8,000.

I am sorry to hear that your IUI failed. I think taking DHEA may help. The recommended dosage is 25mg, 3 times per day, total 75mg. I take them in the morning, afternoon, and bedtime. It will take 16 weeks for it to take effect.

Did you do a stimulated cycle for your IUI? If so, was it easy to have the follicles grow?

我今日在沙田新城市mannings買咗兩樽DHEA, 依家有八五折呀, 我再有95折, 只係$150.X一樽, 平咗呀!

My FSH is 12 when I checked at last June, than I checked it again in last August, it's 10.X, I got bingo at that IUI(2nd), but miscarriage at 8weeks. After a few months rest, I start my 3rd & 4th IUI this Jan & Feb. My response after injection is worst and worst. In the first 2 IUI, I can have 2 egg, but during 3&4IUI, only 1 egg after high dosage.

I can see your problem now. I did 2 IUI and 2 ivf, the response got worse each time. This is why I am taking DHEA now. My advice to you is that you try DHEA, it is nothing to lose. I myself read the research about DHEA, 3x25mg per day is considered to be a low dosage. Many women like ourselves do not produce enough DHEA naturally and this is the cause of the problems in our ovaries and egg production. DHEA is a hormone precursor and it will turn into estrogen and testosterone in our body. It will not turn you into a man.

I knew of the existence of DHEA for a few years. I did not pay much attention to it at that time. Originally, it was used to make people look young and feel young again. Many woman in the U.S. took it for these reasons. Now, the claim extends to fertility. I hope it will also make us look young again. Just joking.

We better follow what the research tells us. In the U.S., doctors cannot just doing something that is harmful to the patients. The government will not allow such studies to be conducted in human. If you take less,you may not get the results. You are then wasting your time. Also, it will take 16 weeks for it to work because the follicles actually take that long to grow.

What kind of medication you used for stimulation? That also makes a difference. My doctors gave me Gonal-F for stimulation. It is injected into my belly.

I hope you can stay calm and have confidence in your body. Thisis the best we can do now. My FSH is almost 15. Your chance is still good.

Thank you very much for your kindness.

I guess what I need to ask will be the same as yours as our case are quite.

The main questions are:
1) Do we suitable to take DHEA?
2) What dosage we need to take per day?
3) Can I start my first IVF let's say 1 month after I start taking DHEA? I understand that it's better to take it for 3-4 months. But...my husband & I really want to catch the time.

I also took Gonal-F for all my IUI treatments. During the 4th IUI, I took 3x220iu + 1x150iu before 破卵針. But only one is just big enough, the other 2 is really really small.

Regarding Mannings discount, GNC staff just told me that they are having promotion for 15% off, and my sister have credit card which can get another 5% off. GNC staff also told if I buy more than a certain amount ($1600?), there will have 20% off.

Also, I first heard about DHEA is from some Taiwan websites. The doctors suggest patients like us to take DHEA.

Thank you so much for your sharing about DHEA to us. I have just made my decision to start taking this supplement. I also have some question about it and hopefully you could help me to check with your NY dr.

I wonder if I am also suitable to take DHEA:
1. My FSH level was around 8.x which was considered ok forsome dr but not ok for dr. Tung.

2. I had poor response to the stimulation drugs as well, during my previous IVF & IUIs. (preg in 2nd IUI & miscarried in week5)

Not sure what else I need to provide... Thanks again for your time & sharing.

I will ask the doctor (Dr. Gleicher) your questions and hope that we can get some answers from him. Just with the limited information that you both provided, 高齡產婦 is a good candidate for DHEA. You are just like myself, we have high FSH and poor response to stimulation.

babylulu, did you check FSH every month. FSH fluctuate every month. The highest FSH reflects the true conditions of our ovaries. In my case, my highest FSH is 14x, however, five other months, my FSH ranged from 6 to 8. Anything >10 is not good. You also need to check antral follicles counts on Day 3 with the FSH. The antral follicles are tiny follicles that will grow with stimulation. If you have low count, i.e, less than 8, I believe that DHEA can help. FSH of 8 is still within the normal range and may not need DHEA.

DHEA is often for more desperate women.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the U.S. doctors also ask their patients to take pre-natal vitamin and folic acid on a daily basis. I have been taking them for about 6 months. Anyway, our bodies need vitamin. No harm. If you are pregnant, you definitely need to take folic acid.

My Chinese doctor told me to take fish stomach. I guess this is also no harm.

I want to know I test FSH on Day 3 (first time is : 14.x), after three months of my miscarriage

After that, I consult Chinese Doctor to take herbal everyday, six month later, I test FSH again (the result is 8 and the Proclatin, TSH, E2, LH is normal)

My age is 33 now

I recommend some of us try herbal rather than just take pills without consultation.

It is just my opinion and sharing.

Coz DHEA is hormous, if use wrongly, like if you don't knwo whether you have cancer or other hormous problems, it will affect our health, take care and have doctor's consultation.
