There are a number of protocols for women with different problems. The ivf doctor's judgement of the case is very crucial because the results can vary dramatically with different protocols. I used the birth control pill protocol in my last ivf. The result was not that good. Another doctor explained to me that for older women like myself, the ovaries are not active already, therefore birth control pills further suppress aging ovaries. Experienced doctors can judge better and can monitor the progress better because they can manipulate the medications. In general, the belly injections are more effective and therefore more suitable for older women.
Frisbe,
thank you for your reply. that's why I think I'm the kind of old women (& high FSH), so I trust I will start with injections right away.
In that case, if I want my IVF at May, maybe I don't need to call Dr Tay in April, just wait and call him in May is fine enough. What do you think?

高齡產婦,

If you are going to do ivf in May, this will give you about 4 months for the DHEA to take effect. You don't really need to see the doctor during this time. However, if you want to know your progress, you can have blood tests including FSH, E2, and LH, on Day 2 or Day 3.
Also do an ultrasound for antral follicles counts (number and size) when you do the blood test. This will tell you how many possible eggs you MAY have under stimulation. If you have less then 5 antral follicles on Day 2 or Day 3, the success rate is very low. Because not all antral follicles can grow and you may end up having 1 or 2 follicles big enough for collection.
I suggest you at least test your DHEA-S level just to see what is your level before you continue taking it. You can compare later whether your body is absorbing it.
