On the assumption that you can afford the car and you have already indicated the primary purpose of the car is not for commute but profit making activity (part time job in remote area), your consideration should focus on whether you are keen on the part time, degradation of living quality (decreased time for leisure due to part time job), and whether the cost of the car would exceed the income your earned from the part time job.
From solely monetary perspective, if the part time can earn 10K per month, it is reasonable to invest on a car (monthly cost of a 2nd hand Japanese sedan just cost you around 3~5k)

u read my mind :)may I ask you one more question, if I buy a new jazz/cube etc (full paid),
will the monthly expense (except parking) same as the 2nd hand or more?

the cost difference would be negligible between running a brand new car or a trusty 20 year old banger. of course, newer cars tend to be more reliable and the standard manufacturer warranty should help reduce offset some of the running cost. good luck and hope you\'ll find what you want.

For brand new car, the depreciation is much more significant than a 6-7 yrs used car. Also bear in mind that you need to pay more on insurance for brand new car (全保) while it is not a must for 60-70k used car (三保).

For maintenance, brand new car is less likely undergoing maintenance yet the dealer will force you to go back to them for routine check and replacement of consumables , which charges you 3~5k biannually or every 5000km. If you got some friends who know cars well, they may be able to help you choose a car with good condition (i.e. last owner keeps the car well) and the same spending may be lower than brand new one.

Other chatters here may further advise the difference on the cost between brand new and second hand car (NB: I am the second owner of my current car, which was manufactured in 2006).

樓主，如你只是週末消閒用車，可不考慮租車。一來成本比較低，又可以有唔同車款選擇，重有唔駛自己煩保養維修等問題。皇冠、大昌行等等都有租車服務

樓主平時梗係搭車返工瞓覺冇留意交通情況, 每朝九龍揸車去港島都塞到PK架喎, 揸車頂多快十至廿分鐘, 唔覺得會有咩大幫助, 反而養車仲要用多咗錢添, 好似上面其他人既提議搬去港島住好過啦

Thank you so much for your advice.I will think about it over the x'mas :) I am not in urgent needs but it's nice to have a car for the aforementioned reason and my mom is getting old and I want to bring her to various places around HK to enjoy food and natural scenery :)
