I haven’t been here for more than one year. It is amazing that people try to explore the places where the usual group tours do not go.

I have been to Bohol many times. Let me give some advice.

Transportation:
Ferry from Cebu to Tagbiliran: Ocean Jet, Weesam, Turbo Cat.
When you arrive at Cebu before dawn, you may wait a while in the airport(domestic departure hall, go to the opposite after leaving the arrival hall and take the ramp upwards) or go directly to the piers.

Ticket offices of various ferries will open at 5:00am. You may get a shock when the ticket offices open. It is because the ferries will be full in Saturday morning. Never try to buy ferry ticket upon arrival on Saturday. You better check the calendar first. If you arrive Cebu on Saturday, you may stay a day in Mactan to enjoy the hotels or make a gamble to Bohol directly, 50/50. The ferries are not at the same pier. Pier to pier takes 5 minutes by car at least.

Accomodation
The place / island you will visit is Panglao. Don’t try to book a hotel not situate in Panglao. It is too far away from the tourist area and you will have problem in joining local tour or land transportation.

There is no hotel in Bohol. They are resorts only. You are advised to stay at Alona
Beach. If you want to have a quiet life, you can stay at Bohol Beach Club.

Attractions
Balicasag: must go. You may charter a boat if your group is not very small.
Dolphin watching: OK la. You may see dolphin on the way to and from Balicasag.
Land tour: chocolate hill etc. I have no advice as I never try before.

Kids
This place is not suitable for small kids. 4 yrs old at least.

重有係Bohol係咪住Alona Beach比較方便? Alona Beach有邊間‘正’酒店？
Yes. 住Alona Beach方便a lot. ‘正’resort: Alona Plam. Second best: Alona Kew, Isisbungalow, Philippines Divers Resort pool side or new wing and Lost Horizon new wing. You may search their website by google.

Good idea if you arrive there on Saturday. Cebu – Bohol is better than Bohol – Cebu because time arrangement is more easy.

Balicasag. Must go.

There is a resort right there. The beach is very beautiful. Good for swimming and relax. You may be asked to pay a little if you play there. An alternative is to have a lunch break there, no need to pay the something called entrance fee.

This island is very beautiful. It is surrounded by beach and you may walk it round. Snorkeling is very good also. Adults can take a shift. Some look after the kids at the resort and some go snorkeling. Ask the boat to take you somewhere other than the beach right in front of the resort. A lot of fishes, you will be surprises.

You may try scuba diving or take a course at Alona
Beach. Of course, going with kids, you can’t say “you go I go”, have to say “you go I don’t go”. Adults have to take a shift.

Thanks for all your informatios. I read a lot of blogs recently, most of the details are same as you provided. BTW, how about Amorita Resort in Bohol? Seems that this one is a bit better but it located on a cliff.

Probably, I will be arriving Cebu on Tuesday but I won't go to Bohol at the same day if I take Cebu Pacific Air, it will be too tired for my 6 yrs old boy. I am still checking their rate every day as now it's quite expensive in CNY.

BTW, which airline you usually take to Cebu / Bohol? Do you know the schedule by Philippine Airlines from HK / Cebu? I can't find any info from their wesbite.

I also plan to go to Cebu + Bohol with my 5-years-old girl in CNY. When will you go? I am thinking of going there from 25 Jan - 30 Jan. As you said, the air ticket of Cebu Pacific is quite expensive but that of Air Philippines is even more terrible. I am still 15 16 for whether to go there in CNY.

I am planning to go on 27 Jan (should be 26 midnight) to 1 Feb by Cebu Pacific. Before I wanted to go in July but finally I changed to Sabah because there are a lot of typhoons during Summer. Heard that the weather at the beginning of the year is fine over there.

Yes, Cebu Pacific is quite expensive this year, I read a lot of blogs, most of them are not over 1K/person before. So I keep checking everyday see I can catch any special offer from them later. I checked with CX this morning, it costs over 11K (for 2 adult 1 child) in that period.

I like to go 'sun & beach' so I won't changed to go another place. Have you start to search details from forum / website yet?

I've browsed a number of blogs and the forum in Travellife. Really want to go but the price is a little bit out of budget ah. Please inform me in case you have any news on budget air ticket.

I'm thinking of taking morning flight to Cebu via Manila by Cebu Pacific (midnight flight would be too harsh for my girl) and staying at Cebu for 1 night before going to Bohol. Will you go island hopping, watch dolphin, visit chocolate hill and see the little "monkeys"? I may also stay one night at the Bee Farm in addition to the resorts in Bohol (maybe Bohol Beach Club, any other suggestions?).

How to go from Manila to Bohol? I knew that from Cebu only (all the bloggers were from Cebu also). I am planning to see dolphin + balicasag island + virgin island as well as monkey and Bee farm but I won't stay overnight in Bee farm as I will return to Cebu for 2 whole days.

Bohol Beach Club is fine but it's not closed to Alona Beach (have to take transport) and heard that the food is not good in this resort. I intending to stay Amorita Resort but their rate is a bit high and my 2nd choice is ISIS Bungalows / Lost Horizon.

It is no problem to keep u informed if I get any special offer from Cebu Pacific.

The indirect flight via Manlia takes around 6 hours 8:25am on board in HK and arrive Cebu at 2:35pm. It takes a long time but would still be better than a midnight flight.

BBC is far from Alona Beach ... O I see ... then I may have to think think la.

Wish to stay at Bee Farm because I read from the Forum that there may be fireflies at night ... would be a good experience for my girl.

Sorry to interrupt. I don't think indirect flight is a good idea. Setting aside the additional fuel surcharge and airport tax, a 3-hour trip is extended to 6 hours. Including the 2-hour ferry journey to bohol, you will arrive at Bohol in the evening.

As I know, there is a flight from Manila to Bohol but it is an early morning flight.

I haven’t been to Amorita Resort. This is that kind of resort out of my budget. Moreover, it is not at the beach. If my wife said in the resort: Oh! Should we buy a mosquito repeller? Or if my son said on the beach: Oh! I forget my………….. I don’t like hiking right there.
It was quite busy in Bohol. You know, you need an hour to have a breakfast, an hour for lunch, 2 hours for dinner, 1 hour to urge the children to take a shower. Therefore, Alona
Beach is my first choice.

Many people said the food is good there. I swear, you won’t swallow a bit if you eat their food for a week. I will bring some can food from HK. Buy some bread there and make my own sandwich. To buy a reasonable standard of bread, you need to go to the mainland on foot. The road is at the center of Alona
Beach, take it and go straight on for 5 minutes. You will find a shop at your right hand side and a mini-supermarket 50 meters in front of you. It may be an excuse because my own sandwich is much much cheaper. If your group is not small, bring an electric pot and cook your instant noodle. It will taste much better than in HK.

I went with my wife, my 2 sons age 7 and 13, my brother and a couple of friends in CNY 2007. The cost was lower at that time. The total cost excluding diving was HKD10000 for 6 days, of course, flight and fuel surcharge etc included.

Adult’s free time.
It is safe to leave your children with an adult at the Balicasag resort. The workers’ eyes are grown on their forehead. No local people can stay on their private beach for more than 30 seconds. My wife, my son and I are divers. I left my small son there sometimes. I left him on board to play his gameboy sometimes. However, put him in his wetsuit on beach and in his life jacket on board.

You can’t imagine how happy my sons were. Tens of dolphins jump, swim, play at the front of my boat for 2-3 minutes. It was not a dolphin watching tour but a normal boat trip to Balicasag. If you see dolphins XX meters away, you should shout like a dolphin, they will get close to you.

I've checked with Cebu Pacific. If I fly via Manila to Bohol, I have to book one way ticket both for departure & return (HK -- Manila, Cebu -- HK). It costs almost the same via Cebu (over 6K for 3). You may consider to stay 1 day in Cebu then go to Bohol on the next day as mine.
