centre,
I am using Avent manual pump and is quite good. I will return work next week but I only start pumping milk last weekend. I will pump 4 times a day and the milk should be enough for my sons next day when I was working. As you only start working on Nov, I don't think it is necessary to start pumping now.
2000 meters finished is really a lot to me. I can only finish 1000 meters.

Yes, I guess you 掃風掃得 not enough. How long will you 掃風? I will 掃風 for at least 10 minutes and sometimes will be 15 minutes. OR maybe the 掃風 posture not good enough. Fo my baby, it is more effective to put him on my shoulder.
My baby also has 嘔奶 problem during 1st and 2nd month. When he approaching 3rd month, he has less 嘔奶 (touch wood).
失魂媽咪,
How do you know your baby is not full? Is she crying? Not enough wet diaper? The only way is to let her such more and longer. Like my baby, he only ate for 8 minutes before and required to feed every 2 hours. Now he eat more than 30 minutes and can feed every 4 hours. Did you drink any papaya + fish soup or milk to increase milk supply?
蛋蛋 ,
You have a very good baby that only require one meal at midnight. My baby boy still don't have a fixed eating schedule even though he is approaching 3 months. Don't worry.
Any working moms have or will go to work soon. I had back to work yesterday and pumped milk once in the office. It is much more easier than I though.
I orignally planned to pump 3 times a day and use those milk to feed baby the next day (more fresh). However, my baby require 2 meals and 4.5 ozs only. Thus, I only pumped once in the morning and the other during lunch time in the office. Now I can pump more than what he demands.
Did you design a time schedule and train your BB before back to work? My BB still doesn't have a regular time schedule and since I'll be back for work 2 weeks later, I would like to learn your experience.
I'm still worry about my milk supply. My BB can take 4oz every 3 hours now(i.e. about 3-4 meals when I go to work). However, I can only pump 3-4oz (both sides) each time. I'm now increasing the intake of soup, milk and water and hope my milk supply can be increased to cope with BB's demand la.
Dear sandythepooh,
I did not design the time schedule and train my BB before back to work. My baby don't have a fixed eating and sleeping schedule and I am adopting a feed-on-demand approach. He takes 5-6 meals per day. Before I back to office, I did not give him breastfeed in bottle, thus, I don't know how many ozs he eat. I just try to pump as much as possible and now know that I do not require to pump that much.
I started to create the milk bank 1.5 week before I go to back. The 1st time I pumped milk, I only get 4.5 ozs while I can pumped 8 ozs this morning. Thus, no need to worry as practise makes perfect that you can pump more and more later. Basically the iced-milk I saved are for emergency uses only and not for daily use. I have stored around 15 bags each with 5 ozs. For daily milk supply, I will use the milk that pumped a day before so that my baby can drink 'fresher' milk.
As my baby now required 5 meals a day and only require 2 meals when I were at office. I only required to pump twice and below is the pumping schedule.
1. Pump and feed baby in the morning at 6:50 am before I went to work. It can pump more in the morning and once I found I have enough milk, I will stop pumping. It takes me 15 minutes (in the begining, it takes me 1 hours to pump 6 ozs)
2. Pump in office at 1:30pm on both breast. I can pump from 4.5 ozs to 6 ozs but require more time i.e. around 30 minutes to 40 minutes.
If you baby require more milk / meals, you can pump once or twice at night or midnight in order to meet his / her demand. Remember, you can get more milk by 邊餵邊pump. At last, you can also use the supply at the milk bank that you have saved.
Dear sandythepooh,
You need to first know how many meals your baby require when you were away. If he / she need 3 meals and require 4 ozs, you may need to pump 12 ozs milk. If you can pump 4 ozs only, you may need to pump 3 times a day. If you can increase the pumped milk to 6 ozs, you may need to pump twice.
In the worst case, if you can't pump enough milk, you can use the milk that stored before. Then re-filled it during weekend.
Thanks. It's good that your BB only need 5-6 meals per day. My BB is 7 weeks now and he still needs about 8-10 meals daily. When I go out, my helper will feed him with bottle and he can take 4-5 oz each time!
Since my BB is usually sleepy and does not eat much during the first meal in the morning, I am worry that he may not be able to get full at the 7:00am meal before I go to work! That's why I am thinking if I can train him on the feeding schedule!!!
My baby request 12 meals during 1st month, then 9-10 meals during second month. During 3rd months, I try to let him suck longer. Even he is sleepy, I will not give up and keep on waking him up. Thus, he will eat longer (from 10 minutes to at least 30 minutes now). The no. of meals have progressivly decreased a lot. Your babt is normal as having 8-10 meals. Don't be worry, when baby grow up, his stomach will expand and can eat more per meal. Thus, can reduce the no. of meal.
My baby is a pig and love to sleep and is very very difficult to wake him up. Even we change the diaper, he can still sleep. I had the same worry as you. When I 抱佢起身 in the morning on my first day going to work, he immediate open his eye. Then I immedate put my nipple into his mouth. He ate for 15 minutes.
Baby can eat even though he is sleeping.
Maybe you can prepare some cold water to wake him up.
Niklaus,
The eating time is caused by a lot of factor.
e.g. whether your baby is a good sucker? How's your milk flow? If you got less flow, your baby may need to suck longer. So don't compare the baby eating time with other moms.
My baby only suck for 8 minutes on one breast in the 1st month but he can still gain 2 KG weight by the end of 1st month.
As your baby is still unable to pick up his weight, you need to feed as much as he want and as long as he can eat.
Don't worry ...I can share my experience with you ...
My little boy weighed 8 lbs 8 oz when he was born .In the beginning, my breast milk didn't appear, my boy still sucked so hard, and my nipples were soreness, but I didn't give up. Fortunately, the milk came out after 3 days. After 1 week, we had a first checkup, the nurse told me that his weight dropped to 7 lbs 10 oz..I was shocked and felt so horrible, and we had to go back to the doctor after 1 week. At that time, I gave him the formula a little after breastfeeding. Fortunately, his weight went back to 8 lbs 12 oz..After that, I changed back to breastfeed only.. except if my baby needs more and I don't have enough milk for him, I will give him a bottle feeding.
Newborns usually lose around 6-10 oz, or about 5-8 % of their birth weight, during the first week. Babies are born with extra fluid and fat to tide them over until their mother's milk can supply sufficient fluid and nutrition.
Of course, if your problem is still the same, you have to ask your doctor ,because losing weight is caused by a lot of reasons.
On the other hand, breastfeeding is not a mathematical exercise, you don't have to count how long and how often. (sometimes for long period- as you . 1 hour )..as long as you have correct positioning and latch-on..Mine always takes me about 5-15 mins on each side, but if he's sleepy, maybe takes longer.
Take it easy, we support you ....
