I have 28-70/F2.8L. It is a very nice len. Fast, silent, accuracy. You will not find any complaint of having it except you may feel painful when you are paying the money.

Since this range is very useful and most common, I do recommend this len.

Now, no 28-70/F2.8L anymore but from 24. Please note.

In addition, the price of L-lens seems to be rising which may be due to the value of Japanese money is rising.

Canon 24-70mm F2.8L is quite good too! Actually, I use it most of the time!

BTW, regarding 70-200mm F2.8L, do you think "IS" is important?? With "IS" or not, the price may be different.

Oh, you already got a 28-70mm f/2.8. Then your next target should really be in the wide or tele side. The 70-200 f/2.8 or f/4 should be the one for the tele. You may also consider the wide size coz' the 1.6x factor make the 28-70 not wide enough.

IS 功能相信效用不少，事關可以彌補兩級快門，特別係對於長焦距的幫助，初初28-135mm試行使用IS，睇怕canon都經過詳細試驗同分析其實用性，所以相隔一段不短時間後，先開始陸續加入IS功能在鏡頭中，特別係著意將依個功能加入招牌的L系列裡，canon必定對此功能有相當信心。

如果彌補快門真係足兩級的話，200mm情況下用1/50s都有穩定影像，作用又真係唔少.......

以現時L三寶，16-35, 24-70, 70-200.....加埋body閃燈，真係付出唔少.........財力同體力.........

如果去到呢個價格比重而係因為講求質素的話，我會偏向玩其他....怕重就玩RF，唔怕重就中片幅........

Most L lens are poison, even if you don't know photography, when you compare the results, you will go for L lens.
I used to own a few non-L lens, 38-75, 24-85, 50 1.8, 85 1.8 but I sold them to upgrade after I got poisoned by the pictures of L lens.

Now I have only, 28-70 2.8L, 70-200 2.8L.
I just mostly 28-70 2.8L now as it is lighter.

I used to use 70-200 2.8L for adult and baby (they don't run around when try to take picture with them) and my son is 4.5 now so I use 28-70 more.

I bought 28-70 2.8L as second hand ($6000) , 24-70 2.8L is like 9xxx
Some time you will see very very good condition second hand 28-70 2.8L (very high resell value)
Before its end of life the Len was selling ~6400 brand new, but I saw auction for it end at $6500.
A friend bought one at $5900 a year ago but it still cost me $6000 a year later (both second hand)
Like 卓熙豬豬 said you won't have any complains about it.

For the 70-200 2.8L, very nice also but if you are not using it for a while and pick it up again you will feel it is very heavy. I heard 4L is a very good alternative, only half the price. FYI, I only set to F2.8 once in a while I mostly use F4.0 or F5.6, as it would be sharper, so I guess F4L is good enough in most case.

My humble opinion is, buy L or Tamron ( I heard it is better then Sigma or Tokina ) don't buy Canon mid-range. Go for a cheap one save money for the best.

Except for 50 1.8 and 85 1.8, I selling regret both....
Very good supplement as large aperture and lighter Len too.

My two cents worth.

Actually my current lens line up is 17-55mm (kit lens from 300D), 24-85mm and 70-300mm (these two are from my brother's old 50E), 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.8 and a 70-200 f/4L.

I bought a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 previously but soon i sold it out. The reason i am looking for a 24/28-70 f/2.8 is because i need a faster lens to capture my daughter's moment, of course, the "L"'s optical performance is another important consideration. A new 24-70mm is really unafordable for me. So i am looking for 2nd hand one either 24-70 / 28-70. I will soon meet the seller for the 28-70 which he is selling at 5.xk. He said it is in very good condition (3 years lens). Hope i can make the deal today or tomorrow.

Agree, Range finder and 120 are very good alternative for the same budget but I don't like it is good for kids photo, unless you are very good at photography.

I have friends who have auto focus Contax and Range finder Contax and Leica. They took very good picture of my son. I have one 20x24 photo of my son was taken using 120 and I loved it.

But both of my friend said the camera are too slow kids who runs a round. So they use EOS 1, 3 and 50 with L Lens to take pictures most of the time and use RF and 120 in special occasions only. The USM is a match for running kids.

Also many parent here are talking about DSLR, we can see how it is right away ma.

5xxx is good for a 90% new "hung goods" la!
my one is $6000 said 90% but was 95% when I saw it, so bought right away.

I rather wait for another one if the len is not 90% new!

So Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 is really not so good. I saw many second hands.

Thanks for your info. Actually i always visit dchome but i haven't take detail look at the mesg your posted.

i have checked the recent trade price of the 28-70 f/2.8 should be around 5k-6k depending on the condition. So i think if the lens is 90% new, then it worth $5.xk.

So how long have you bought your 28-70?

係呀....講到對焦速度一定係時下slr鏡頭贏晒....
祇係我覺得同小朋友去街仲要拎一大袋神兵利器實在太辛苦，如果多過一個小朋友仲大鑊，如果用質素、重量同價格平均比較之下，我覺得有其他更好更化算選擇.......至於針對番小朋友走動方面，對焦方面或者係會顧此失彼，可以用類似陷阱式拍法幫補...........
