If you have PR and your wife and child also have PR, you should be able to apply citizenship after 4 years staying in Australia provided that you pass the citizenship test.
If you are not staying behind in OZ, only your wife and child staying there, as long as their PR status is independent, it is ok that only your wife and child stay over 4 years and your wife pass the citizenship test.
My skill migration visa is for 5 years unlimit entry to AUS without any conditions, and both my wife and daughter are secondary applicants. Is this type of visa regard as PR or TR status?
In addition, could you also tell me if I have to notify any department in case I made the move to AUS permanently.

Things to do First
Below is a list of 7 important things that you should do as soon as possible after arriving in Australia.
1. Apply for a Tax File Number (TFN)
Do this first. To receive an income in Australia, you need a Tax File Number (TFN).
2. Register with Medicare
The Australian Government provides help with basic medical expenses through a scheme called Medicare.
3. Open a bank account
In Australia, most income including salary or wages and government benefits are paid directly into a bank account.
4. Register with Centrelink
Centrelink is a government agency which delivers a range of services to the community.
5. Register for English Classes
Communicating in English is very important and the key to your successful settlement.
6. Enrol Your Children in School
Under Australian law, children must attend school until they are 15 years old.
7. Apply for a Driver's Licence
Information on gaining a driver's licence.
Yes, I've done the first item during my visit to AUS. While I was planning to register with Medicare and open a bank account, but at last, I didn't. For that Medicare I will register upon arrival for my permenant move to AUS, and for bank account, I asked a few banks (e.g. ANZ, Commonwealth, National...), they charge monthly fees.
I did ask National Bank and others, while they provide online saving accounts for free, another account (e.g. card) is also needed for transfer in/out money to/from the saving account and for withdrawal of money. And there is monthly fees on the card account.
Some banks do wavie the monthly fees for a period of time (e.g. 6 months). I found their charge schemes are complicated too, some charge for fixed amount and some base on the transactions . Besides, for saving account, the interest rate is different from one to another too but it is quite high (range from 3.x to 5.x) when compare with HK.
Gary, were your family members all included in your application? If yes, they should make the initial entry within the specifc time span as well. If they have just done it together with you and returned to HK with you, they can return to Australia any time they like before the expiry of the visa. But once the visa expires, your entry will not be accepted. Yes, they may settle in Australia first but they are supposed to be financially supported by you during the first few years, they may find jobs but may not get government assistance. After being a PR for 4 yrs, you may apply for citizenship.
Thanks DLPapa. Yes, we are in the same application (I'm the primary and my wife and daughter are secondary applicants), and we went Mel for landing June this year.
So, if my wife and daughter themselves go to Australia staying for 4 years, they will be allowed for applying the citizenship. Is that right?
BTW, do you have any information for primary school? I've checked the websites for top primary schools in Melbourne, and have been checking out the schools in north-east /east (I think) side. But house in the areas like Doncaster and Glen Waverlly are too expensive.
I was confused by agents! I am a medical professional (nurse), some agent advised me to sit in OET but one of the agent claimed that immigration only consider IELITS and the OET is just for the nurse license! Anyone can advise?
Which English language test should I sit?
Generally, you will be required to sit the IELTS test to assess your English language ability. Occupational English Test (OET) results may also be provided as evidence of your English language ability.
Note: OET is currently only available for health practitioners.
it means OET is also an evidence of Eng language ability
