My bun bun uses the washing machine once a week to wash her own clothes (usually Sat) and she washes her underwear by hand every night. Once a week won't cost much $$. It is very difficult to get hand washed clothes dry in Hong Kong. It may develop some strange smell.
I do not see any issue on her using the washing machine as long as she does not mix up with ours. She is well aware of this and has so far never did it wrong. She didn't abuse as she does not need to. She is the one living with us. If I mind her using the washing machine, I would also mind her taking care of my baby, touching my food, washing my cups and plates, cooking my meals, handling my clothes, tidying my bed... or even staying in my house. Is that the same logic?
Besides, I cannot think of a reasonably accepted rationale for not allowing her to wash her own clothes with the washing machines while she has to wash ours with - except saying "I am the employer and my words are paramount" which I think is no longer working now.
If I have a tool that can do things better and faster, I will use to maximize return. Human resources can then be focused on more high value tasks.
