V1 vs D90 ISO noise performance is 2011 vs 200?'s few years sensor development difference, I had no surprise the V1 showing better noise characteristics, not necessarily means strength of NR applied to V1 is heavier and masked off more the details.
As a NEX-5N user, I am also astonished by the picture quality delivered by V1. The on sensor phase-detection AF is also a very nice surprise, i.e. if the AF speed and performance really can match DSLR, I think the 1 system will be almost ideal for kids photography.
Only weakness in my opinion are,
1. less shallow DOF as compared to other large sensor (doesn't matter for casual users who use kit zoom only)
2. slightly higher price

Not just.... as a objective user, I can also provide the user experience for parents to consider.
Good points
1. Fast focus - good for moving kids
2. Short time lag between pressing the shutter and taking the picture, comparable to DSLR performance!
3. Good iso performance - helps a lot in indoor photo taking
4. Great face detection - follows your kid when they are moving along
5. Battery life - Amazing good, not sure about other EVIL, but good enongh for me to take few events on a single re-charge
6. Can take good quality pictures while taking movie (my digitial video cam can do the same, but the picture quality is only good to have)
7. Lens are light weight and small, even bring 2 lens with flash are not too heavy!
Bad points
1. Waiting time between taking 2 photos (the biggest complaint about my V1, this is the major difference between my V1 and DSLR)
2. few lens to choose (can be solve for Nikon user after issuing the F-mount adaptor)
3. 2.7x crop fact might be a bit difficult to get wide enough lens
4. control is not as good and easy (but for auto user, it's not a problem)
My wife told me that this camera is far more usable than the D90, where she need to control so many things, but the picture quality is not much difference. Depending on what you need, I will bring my DSLR now for high quality picture, while she also enjoy taking picture with the V1.
