Hi Snoopy008, I am HKG mom living in Beijing for more than 6 years. Personally I prefer Mutianyu to Badaling because you can choose to take the cable car (absolutely reliable, should be better than Nong Ping 360 in HK!) to climb the great wall. This is especially suitable with toddlers. The first time I went there with my kids when one of them was 4 and the other was 2. Walking down the mountain is less difficult for them at that time. Besides, there are less tourists there in comparison to Badaling. So please consider.
Hi Happyjess, I think your itinerary looks a bit ambitous coz the traffic condition in Beijing could be pretty bad sometimes: traffic jam is very normal here. Therefore, I am afriad if you spare only 1.5 hours, for instance, for visiting parks or museum it will not be enough. Beijing is so huge that 1.5 hour is sufficient just for walking to and back the entrance. You will be extremely hectic during sight-seeing. If you travel with kids, that isn't possible for you to complete your proposed program. Usually when I travel with kids I would spare only 1 spot or maximum 2 for either morning or afternoon session. According to your itinerary, some of the places are hard to be combined and definitely time is not enough e.g. Forbidden city, Jingshan Park and so on. Or National Museum+People's Hall+National Theater - they are not simply next to each other and imagine for example, it takes a while for you to walk from People's Hall to get a taxi before you could reach national theater. Don't forget you have to walk a lot in Beijing and the place is incredibly huge. Btw, I am HKG mom living in Beijing for more than 6 years. Hopefully my tips help!
Day 2
No comment becos I've never been there.
Village
Jianwai Soho-nothing to see, really not worthwhile to waste time.
Sanlitun Villiage is quite interesting in terms of modern shopping mall with branded goods e.g. Manao, Apple store, etc. But there is shopping mall next to it called 雅秀市场is worth considered to go. They sell A货just like 秀水, unless you want to buy something 唔等洗you can go. A lot of travel tour will go there but the tourists complain not enough time to shop.
Day 3
Good idea. Remember to try the 羊肉串
Day 4
Yiheyuan is very big, the Suzhou Street inside is particularly very interesting. So spare some time for that! Actually next to Yiheyuan is the Beijing Zoo which should be interesting for kids as well coz they have a wide range of animals that couldn't be seen in HKG. In terms of distance it is more convenient than driving back to Olympic Park.
Fun Fun
Day 5
Make sure you make a reservation
Dear mommies,
Also a tip for your travel to Beijing. If u have kids over 3 years old, you might well consider bringing them to go to the Chinese version of Kidmanzia in Japan or Baby boss in Taiwan. I think whole day sight-seeing might not be so amusing for kids anyway. So please consider sparing some time for some really children-friendly activities. Below are two links to these sim-city for children in Beijing. Have a look and hopefully they enjoy!! http://www.beyou.cn/ http://www.eecity.cn/
All the sessions are conducted in Mandarin. They are opened for children from 3-12, actually I think it is more suitable for kids between 5-12 to go. Parents can accompany them to go inside at a cost but during their "work", parents cannot go in each room. Check the website and get a feel for it. I don't know how good your children's mandarin is but if they take fundamental Mandarin lessons in HKG, I think you can give them a try. Sometimes kids' ability is beyond our imagination! Have a little bit faith in them! It is exactly this language environment that the kids are missing in HKG and they could practise what they learnt. Besides, the people here in Beijing are very children-friendly ~ much better than in Hong Kong. You can rest assured that they would be very helpful to them! Anyway, I suggest you to talk to them and brief them first and see if they are interested to go. Afterall, it is their decision as well!
Is he a boy? Do they want to go to foot massage? I think there is not so much to do near Sanyuanqiao. Otherwise, they can go to 百脑汇for computer goods shopping. Quite fun though for guys!

Ooops, forgot to mention that she is a girl. I may need to re-plan it if my younger daughter would love to go to Beyou. May be ask PaPa and elder daugther to go to 中關村 and then we meet somewhere else in between later in the evening. Thanks for your suggestion.
In that case, why don't you consider asking Papa to go to beyou world with the little one and you spend a relaxing afternoon with the elder daughter shopping near Sanlitun area e.g. Salitun village or 雅秀市场?Otherwise spending an afternoon with her at a nail bar or foot massage is not a bad choice too.
PaPa is not patient enough to play with the little one for so long and he does not prefer to separate into 2 groups. What's more, my elder daughter and I can speak better Putonghua.
I am not familiar with 崇文区.For foot or body massage, I recommend the below two places which HKG people might find it acceptable in terms of hygiene and quality. Price is definitely not those below RMB100. But I think it's worthwhile. Can check check their website:
