Thanks a lot, dillon!!! I didn't know anything about 九州能源館 before.

We planned to go to 福岡市民防災中心 too in the beginning. But would it be similar to the one in taipei? We went there and experience the earthquake, putting fire and escape from the smoke-filled room too. However, I guess it is still interesting to go there.

Is it easy to access 福岡市民防災中心 and robosquaire? Then it would be good to spend half a day in that area.
somewhere can play sand??? really suitable for my daughter!!!

Here is the access map of 機器人廣場 which also shows the locations of 福岡市民防災中心 and 海濱百道海濱公園 (momochi Seaside park) as well as other tourist sites nearby:

The seaside Park is an elogated beach extending all the way to Hawk City. Both the Hawk city and the Fukuoka Tower are elegant buildings.

If you go by bus you can get there directly. The closest subway station is about a 10 minute walk to 福岡市民防災中心.

I have not been to the one in Taipei. I have gone to 2 防災中心 in gtokyo which are similar. However, in Fukuoka you can also experience Force 11 wind (I guess equivalent to signal #9 wind).

10 min walk is very ok for us! Sometimes it is nicer to walk more in the holiday!!

experiencing the strong wind would be interesting for my daughter. Can we walk in?

My family walked in. I don't think there is any need to make reservation.The experience is guided and is held on a regular interval. If you need to wait, you can watch the exhibit and take photos of your daughter wearing kid-size fireman costumes of different colors. Everything is free.

I want to ask one more thing, dillon. Mostly I would consider buying the Northern JR pass (that should cover till Kumamoto). Should we choose the exact time and seat for the shinkasen beforehand? And is it ok to take normal JR too?

I don't know Japanese either, but I have never encountered any problem in Japan. Most of the times you can guess the meaning from kanji.

If I have a choice of Shinkansen or other trains, I'll always go with Shinkansen cause it is much faster. You can go to Kumamoto from Fukuoka in 30 minutes. With a rail pass you can make free seat reservation of 指定席, which is normally not as crowded as the free seating area. You probably will need to make reservation in advance for the popular Aso Boy train.

If there is no Shinkansen, go for 特急 trains.

Where and when can we make the reservation of 指定席?? Just before the shinkansen coming or day before? I really would love to try the shinkansen!

You can make reservation on the same day you exchange for youer railpass. For example, if you exhcange for your pass on July 10 specifying July 17 as the first day of your 3-day pass. You can reserve all the trains within the validity period of your pass on July 10. You probably want to make reservation for 特急trains also.

You can reserve any train with 指定席.

If you haven't traveled , you can simply go to a JR travel center to rebook. If the train has gone, just take the free seats in another train and forget about your reserved seats. Nobody will give you a fuss about that. I have changed reservations or missed the trains with reserved seats a couple of times in the past, and that's what I did.

Of course as a courtesy to other passengers you probably should try to make the trains you have reserved or change booking when you decide to go for another train.

There are 2 Toyoko inns very near Hakata (Fukuoka) Station. A third one is less than 10 minutes away on foot.
