Yep.
Let's forget about music, where you need to buy, say, a piano or violins or trumpets.
Even for "common" sports, you need the "common" supplies: goggles and caps for swimming; racquets and balls for tennis; shoes and uniforms for soccer, etc.
Plus the travelling expenses (whether you are taking MTR or have your own car, there will be costs) to and back from the sports ground.
More to come when they say they need (or want) their own laptops, and other up coming new technical products. I did not have a computer when I was in primary school. But now a computer is not an "optional item" anymore.
Who knows what new technology (and thus more money to spend) we will have in 10 (or 5) years?

以一個小學生來計算:
1)學費: $3,000
現在好的學校都將會變直資.不要寄望9年免費教育.
2)課外活動: $3,000
起碼學3,4樣或加補習
3)雜費: $2,000 (school bus, books (all kinds), uniform, etc)
Tota: $8,000 (excluding medical, maid, groceries, etc)

其實這樣的使費始於幼稚園.

重貴過供層樓，我依家供緊兩層啦

學費、書簿費、校車、興趣班、補習、夏季及冬季校服/衫褲、鞋、襪、醫生費、保險、飲飲食食、玩具等等...............(兩個小朋友要俾兩份，多幾個俾多幾份)

樣樣都係錢，好似倒水咁。俾錢俾到怕

So, one daughter for me is enough LA

My daughter is now 4.5 years old. I need to spend around $9,000 for her per month ?-( (including maid)

Beside, I spent $5,000 for insurance for her education funds.
