I live in Vancouver too. There is a website called craiglists with quite a few rental classifieds posted by owners. But of course, don't trust everything you see on the website. However, this should give you a rough idea of how the rental market is like in Vancouver.

Hi 小馬仔媽媽,

I live in Burnaby, roughly 10 minutes walk from skytrain station. The neighbourhood is pretty good, mainly working, middle class. The high school in my area is Burnaby North. It has consistently been ranked #1 in Burnaby in terms of its academic result. On the other hand, we don't have a strong sports program. I know a few families moved to this area so their kids can study in North.

You can learn more about secondary school in Greater Vancouver by reading the following report. It is done by the Fraser Institute. However, please bear in mind that only the academic aspects of schooling are used to calculate the ranking. Therefore, private schools have higher ranking because they can hand-pick their students.

From my understanding, if you live close to Holdom, Sperling, and Production Way station, you would fall under the zone of Burnaby North. You can take a look at the translink website to check out the bus and skytrain schedule.

Just curious if your husband is landed immigrants or the company apply visa for him? Did he come over for interview or they did it on the phone?

Regarding on shipping, I am not sure what you will ship, but it seems very expensive. In here, second hand market is very active and if you dont have your address, the shipping company will charge you more to store it. Just remind you, weather is very cold in Vancouver and summer is only last for few months, nice umbrella is must and thick coat are recommended. Electronic is not that expensive if you dont ask for specific brand name. When we first landed, we just with 5 suitcase of lugguage and we bought most stuff here.
We just bought a rice cooker recently for $37 and I think it is similar price in HK.

Hi,

I lives in downtown apartment and I find the enviroment here is really good. Cuz there are alot of young couples that have kids around here. I love it here alot. The only thing is that I think the apartments by Concord Pacific recently are bad. All they care is to sell the apartments and they don't really care about after sale service. I moved in this apartment like 1 yr ago and there were quite a few deficiencies but they still didn't fix it. So for my opinion, don't buy any Concord Pacific not yet build apartments. But the ones or rent the ones that ppl have lived in. Also if your child is really young, the daycares or preschools availabity is limited. My daughter is on waiting list in serveral of them but it's been a year or something and still no response.

I am not sure what issue you have with the builder, but you should read the policy and put everything in writing.
As you know all warranty has expiration date and do keep an eye on that. Do you have strata? They should represent your interest and see if they can help.

We did, all the deficiencies are writen down when we check the house. Everytime I call them it's answering machine and which no one ever return my call. There's a few times I bumed into the Concord Pacific ppl in the building and they told me cuz there were alot other deficiencies and they are still working on it. They said they haven't done it doesn't mean they are not doing it or forgot about it. All ppl in the strata are pissed by concord pacific too. I've talked to other neighbours who lives in other concord pacific buildings and they have the same problem as I do.

If I were you, I will file the complains through the strata. Individual has less power but make sure it is the builder's fault. I know the rule is, you can pay to fix it first and claim it back from the builder, but again, make sure you read the rules carefully.

So far, our builder did a great job as all the things fix within the first month we move in.

Is your building is new one or old one?

Mine is a new one, first hand. We moved in last year Jan. We are planning to move to another apartment now but within this area. I still like the enviroment but just the building I don't like.

I don't want to leave the problems too, just that the residents in this building have done so many things but the Concord Pacific ppl just don't care about it. We've had several strata meetings and we've even made a list of every apartment's problem to Concord Pacific, just no feedback. That's why I'm telling others don't buy new Concord Pacific apartments, they are horrible.

If you leave it, the next buyer will not have the same right as the builder will say it expires the warranty, then the owner will be the looser!
Do you guys hire a management company to help the strata? The managment company should know how to handle it.
In Canada, you need to give them pressure in order to get your things done. You should know your right and fight for that. I hope you dont give up easily.

I know, I don't want to leave it too. I've done alot and our whole building have done alot. The problem is no matter what you've done or how much pressure you give them, they just don't care and ignore us. I'm still working on contacting them but they were the ones that refuses to reply. I immigrated in Canada like 17 years and I do know how the Canadian companies work. That's why I'm still trying my best.
