I have read the news briefly. The photographs and the headline really made me shock, sad and uncomfortable. Hope your daughter will get well soon.
Why no evidence that is done by the maid? No supportive organisation in HK to help employers of foreign domestic helpers and our govt is incapable. Those officers implement this law do not understand our situation. Like me I really need a full time maid so that I can go out to earn living for my family.
When my maid was admitted to hospital last month. I cannot find a full-time maid to help me. During that period, I almost become mad. Our govt always say we can employ local domestic helpers, in fact, they are unwilling to work long hours, their working time cannot match with ours...........
Foreign domestic helpers not only enjoy all the benefits of HK citizen, but also 100% medical coverage, 100% food, gas, electricity....., they do not have to pay 1 cent, so they often waste our resources. They do not have probation period. Govt said all domestic helpers come to HK with at least 2 years experience. How can our govt guarantee their experiences are true and suitable for us. Please refer to a topic in BK about this.
Completely crazy. If this serious incident still cannot draw our govt's attention. What can we do? What can our govt do?
As agency said, Singapore and Taiwan govts understand the working conditions in a family is different from factories, offices..., so they have separate labour law when they started to import foreign domestic helpers. Why other governments help their citizens, but ours only stressed on fair? Is it fare for us? Our expenses on DHs are not tax deductible.............
I believe many mothers will worry if they leave their valuable children, especially babies, in the hand of stranger. I think most of them will not treat their maids bad. Why the Head of Labour Dept, Cheung Kin Chung encourage those underpay DHs to prosecute their employers (include their air tickets, accommodation and food), why govt do not find some ways to help us????
