I haven't joined any mileage program offered by credit card issuing bank, so I have no idea on redemption matter.

Could you pls tell how many mileage can be obtained in each $ spending, and h ...

KL,

For HSBC, $1 ==> 1 point, 12 points ==> 1 Krysflyer mile.

For taking SingAir econ class (must be ticket with mileage accrual, the cheapest ones usually don't allow mileage accrual) 1 mile flown = 1 Krysflyer miles.
For some hotels, each hotel stay = 500 K miles. Can also accumulate for car rental (not for me).

You need 30000 Krysflyer miles to get a HK-Sing-HK return econ class air ticket, but then if you redeem on the internet you get 15% off ie only need 25500 Krysflyer miles for a HK-Sing-HK ticket.

Even kids' own account allow for mileage accumulation, ==> piglet went to SF twice ==> already has 27xxx Krysflyer miles in his own account. (This is apart from same no. of points in my own K account and my mum's.) So we get 3 HK-Sing-HK air tickets from flying twice HK-SF-HK.

But for kids, they can't fly alone, and the comp system does not allow for redemption of 1 kid only without an adult, so must process through Customer Service, ==> need 30000 K miles to get his air ticket. For topping up 3000 K miles, I need to pay US$40 for each 1000 K miles ==> USD120.

Then you still need to pay for all the surcharges (airport taxes and fuel surcharge) by credit card.
Ticket = e-ticket, which is OK.

And you can accumulate K miles in your account and redeem for 5 other "nominees".
But points will lapse after 3 yrs.

***
Some other credit cards allow for quicker accumulation, need 8 points ==> 1 mile, but usually that's usually for AsiaMiles. I don't have enough there to warrant any effort anyway. AE had a promotion, ended on 31 Aug, for quicker accumulation ga, but only 2 yrs card fee waiver, and v expensive annual fee, and not much chance of using AE, vs I have lots of chances of using HSBC card.

And it also looks as if its more difficult to redeem AsiaMiles air tickets, need more lead time. But for SingAir I can book now for Christmas air tickets and still available.

****

Anyway, you're a big spender so why don't you charge everything to 1 cr card and save ponits and get air ticekt(s) for your family ? !
:lol

GN4,
Chinese go is "wai-kei" in cantonese. Maybe same as go-chess that u refer to.

Lamsuetwai,
My son is in P2 too. He is quite keen on chinese go. At least he learns that "one mountain can be higher than another"! Pardon my translation. I never learn how to type in chinese! I don't know when he will stumble & does not want to move on. But right now he is making steady progress & I suppose that keeps him going.

blue*,

Tks for the detailed explanation. Seems there're a lot rules to follow in turning credit card points to mileage and using them to redeem air ticket!

I still prefer using my credit card points to get supermarket cash coupons!!

JSM/LSW,

Kv has also applied 圍棋 course at school (a free ECA offered by school). Hope he is lucky enough to get a seat.

Thinking about the trip to Japan, any recommendation?

RMM,

We will arrive Sing on 21 Dec,
go to KL on 22 Dec (5hrs drive)
go to 雲頂 on either 23 or 24 Dec after the water world in KL,
return to Sing on 26 Dec,
return to HK on 31 Dec.

So if you are in Sing between 26 and 31 Dec, can meet up with you ga. No definite plans yet. May squeeze in another Sing - Johore trip in between.

Piglet says he is tired of pandang cakes, at last !

TTM,

SingAir allow only 20Kg luggage nowadays, so if you really want to buy the desk from Sing and want to carry it back with you, need 3 ppl to travel together. The shop selling the ergo desk doesn't ship to HK.
Last time Audreymom and I considered the possibilities and concl was its possible to buy in Sing and bring back.

Lamsuetwai,
Yes, my son learns from 香港兒童棋院 in CWB cos it's near where we live.

KL,
Wow, ECA is free?!!!! I dare not calculate how much I spend on ECA for my 2 kids! Definitely more than on myself!

BS,
Which card earns 1 mile for every $8 spending? I used to use UOB card whenever I can't use Std Chart's AE, but UOB stopped the card service.... and I have to accrue using 1/12! I can't agree with u more that Asiamiles are so difficult to redeem ticket. But they have more destinations & cost fewer miles.... I am sitting on lots of miles waiting for redemption!!!!

Che,

I don't know the name of the desks, but I found there were a lot of similar ergo desk were selling in Taiwan, the styles of the desk and the chair were nice and fancy. The price should be lower than HKD3000 per set. If you are going to the building of 'Shing Bum', you could find the desk were selling on the floor which sells the clothes/toys/furniture etc.

Buddies & Che,

Let's have gathering at Lunch time ?
